Job Description

Flatiron UK is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Data Scientist to join our small startup team in London. We are in need of a technologist who is passionate about data and the potential for real-world evidence to accelerate cancer research and improve the lives of cancer patients around the world.

UK Office

Flatiron Health is a healthcare data and technology company that is building a connected platform enabling the development of actionable insights in cancer research. Our mission is to improve lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. We do this by helping cancer care providers and researchers gain access to high quality data about cancer treatments and outcomes in the real world.

We established our first international office in 2020 (in London) and are building a founding team here focused on transforming the use of healthcare data and improving outcomes for all cancer patients in the UK. If you’re interested in joining a small, fast-paced team focused on improving cancer care and accelerating cancer research across the globe, here’s what you need to know:

What You'll Do

As a Data Scientist on this team, you will work with cross-functional leads to design solutions in a highly ambiguous, impactful problem space with a high degree of autonomy. You will synthesise user feedback and data to help guide the team’s product roadmap and lead the technical development effort for data products.

Flatiron has built the most advanced real-world evidence platform in oncology. We are now using our data to bring cutting edge research to cancer patients. You will work closely with study sponsors, research sites, and cross-functional teams at Flatiron, using our data to identify product opportunities that can improve patient access to clinical trials and accelerate cancer research in an inclusive and equitable way.

You will be building out the data science function in our UK office, and closely coordinate with Data Scientists across international teams. You will help us build data products that combine information from patient records and responsibly transform their data into products for research, as well as build table stakes product analytics capabilities within the team. In addition, you'll also:

  • Immerse yourself in business and technical context to help your team identify opportunities for unlocking new value from our unique data
  • Drive instrumentation, metric development, and analytical insights that guide product strategy
  • Rapidly iterate on early stage data products where a hybrid skill set of product intuition, customer empathy and technical expertise is essential
  • Deploy machine learning models that bring cutting edge research to cancer patients and accelerate cancer research in an inclusive and equitable way

Who You Are

You are an entrepreneurial, customer-focused data scientist, experienced in driving new data capabilities. You are excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You are a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make a real impact on people’s lives.

  • You have 4+ years of relevant working experience in an analytical and technical capacity
  • You have collaborated with other technical team members in a production development environment using formal version control, Python, and SQL
  • You have led large, cross-functional initiatives and excel at influencing decision-making without authority
  • You have experience in a broad spectrum of data science techniques and are excited to apply them to solve complex clinical or business problems

If this sounds like you, you'll fit right in at Flatiron.

Extra Credit:

  • You have machine learning experience in a healthcare setting
  • You have worked in a scientific research environment, and are comfortable collaborating with scientific stakeholders (e.g. biostatisticians, research oncologists) and with evaluating statistical evidence
  • You have experience with the risks of bias in machine learning, health equity research/analysis or have worked with underrepresented groups in a clinical research setting

You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves and using technology to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives honest feedback and values the opportunity to improve the lives of cancer patients.

If this sounds like you, you'll fit right in at Flatiron.

Flatiron Health

At Flatiron, we believe that learning from the experience of every cancer patient is an imperative — it is the key to accelerating research and continuing to improve the quality of care. What stands in the way is an overwhelming technology challenge: Much of the available, real-world clinical data is unstructured and stored across thousands of disconnected community clinics, medical centers and hospitals.
