Job Description

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Data Insights Engineering team and help us accomplish our mission of improving lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. Here's what you need to know about the role, our team and why Flatiron Health is the right next step in your career.

What You'll Do

Data Insights Engineering is a diverse and talented team with strong expertise in discovering and understanding customer needs, and rapidly prototyping and iterating on data products. As a Senior Data Scientist on this team, you will work with cross-functional leads to design solutions in a highly ambiguous, impactful problem space with a high degree of autonomy. You will synthesize user feedback and data to help guide the team’s product roadmap and lead the technical development effort for data products.

Flatiron has built the most advanced real-world evidence platform in oncology. We are now using our data to bring cutting edge research to cancer patients. You will work closely with study sponsors, research sites, and cross-functional teams at Flatiron, using our data to identify product opportunities that can improve patient access to clinical trials and accelerate cancer research in an inclusive and equitable way.

You will be building out the data science function for a new product area - part of a leading end-to-end clinical trial execution system that we recently acquired. You will help us build table stakes product analytics capabilities, as well as data products that combine information from clinical trial protocols with patient records to help us find patients for clinical trials and responsibly transform their data for clinical research. In addition, you'll also:

  • Immerse yourself in business and technical context to help your team identify opportunities for unlocking new value from our unique data
  • Drive instrumentation, metric development, and analytical insights that guide product strategy
  • Rapidly iterate on early stage products where a hybrid skill set of product intuition, customer empathy and technical expertise is essential
  • Deploy machine learning models that bring cutting edge research to cancer patients and accelerate cancer research in an inclusive and equitable way

Who You Are

You are an entrepreneurial, customer-focused data scientist, experienced in driving new data capabilities. You are excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You are a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make a real impact on people’s lives.

  • You have 4+ years of relevant working experience in an analytical and technical capacity
  • You have collaborated with other technical team members in a production development environment using formal version control, Python, and SQL
  • You have led large, cross-functional initiatives and excel at influencing decision-making without authority
  • You have experience in a broad spectrum of data science techniques and are excited to apply them to solve complex clinical or business problems

If this sounds like you, you'll fit right in at Flatiron.

Extra Credit:

  • You have machine learning experience in a healthcare setting
  • You have worked in a scientific research environment, and are comfortable collaborating with scientific stakeholders (e.g. biostatisticians, research oncologists) and with evaluating statistical evidence
  • You have experience with the risks of bias in machine learning, health equity research/analysis or have worked with underrepresented groups in a clinical research setting

Flatiron Health

At Flatiron, we believe that learning from the experience of every cancer patient is an imperative — it is the key to accelerating research and continuing to improve the quality of care. What stands in the way is an overwhelming technology challenge: Much of the available, real-world clinical data is unstructured and stored across thousands of disconnected community clinics, medical centers and hospitals.
