Job Description

Dow Jones is looking for a Sr. Director, New Ventures Business Intelligence who can leverage his/her expertise in digital news and media, qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and data analysis to support data-driven storytelling and deliver against strategic business insights. In this role, the candidate will support both the New Business Ventures organization and provide business intelligence for Partnerships and Audio/Video functions. The candidate will lead a team to advise on industry trends and partner with senior leadership to drive the direction of decisions and performance in order to drive business goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Define strategy and manage a long-term vision and portfolio of initiatives to improve business results through creating world-class metrics, analysis, visualizations, and data-driven storytelling
  • Lead a team to capture and present regular performance analyses and optimization recommendations for New Business Ventures
  • Manage a group of 2-3 resources, outside vendors and continually coach, develop, and mentor your team
  • Work closely with senior leadership and senior internal stakeholders across departments to develop data oriented solutions to their short and long term business growth and innovation needs
  • Oversee the performance of research and data analysis functions
  • Collaborate in brainstorming sessions with content and creative teams to optimize the platform in terms of content, messages, formats and duration, based on the insights and learning that have emerged from the data
  • Raise individual and team competencies by proactively gathering and disseminating knowledge and tools
  • Define and work with team members to create and automate practices, procedures and reports that continuously monitor the integrity of the data
  • Support strategic and executive presentations and updates
  • Continue learning about industry trends, standards, and innovation within the business intelligence data management domain

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of industry experience in Business Intelligence, Data Science, or related field with a track record of producing actionable business insights from large datasets
  • Experience with news companies is preferred but not required
  • Experience with media companies is preferred but not required
  • Experience with audio and video is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of hands-on experience with SQL and data visualization tools (e.g Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Experience managing Business Intelligence Engineers and/or Business Analysts
  • Strong business acumen, verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
