Being part of the Pricing & Marketing Machine Learning team (CMO) provides a unique opportunity to grow. We work on small teams that collaborate across the organization to fulfil their information needs. As the leader of the data science function, the opportunities are matched by equal challenges to educate, guide and provide support through the digital transformation of Lumen. Your mission is to lead the organization transforming data into valuable business information and building, managing data science models that automate analytical decisions.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Work w/ the software development team members, program stakeholders and leaders to translate business objectives into quality ML products
  • Participate in the program management process (Agile/Safe) and help shape priorities, define requirements
  • Contribute to ROI measurement, business cases and manage allocation of resources
  • Communicate well, partner with other departments and senior stakeholders
  • Advance the effective and high-value application vision of data science in Lumen
  • Facilitate engineering and systems design and improvement
  • Retain, develop and attract exceptional technical talent, contribute to a self-organizing, agile culture
  • Review data science code, assure quality of ML products and dissemination/use in an impactful way for the business
  • Define best practices, optimal processes and effective communication protocols.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required

  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills and being able to bring people together, hire, develop and motivate staff members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills on quantitative topics for a variety of audiences: product managers, process or application owners, sellers & commercial teams, engineers and business leaders.
  • Fluent in data fundamentals: Python, R, SQL, statistics, experimentation, and modeling.
  • Familiarity with the integration of data / models into operational corporate workflows via RESTful API's
  • Excellent presentation skills - ability to distill and present actionable information from complex research or analysis for lay audiences
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • 10+ managing projects of all sizes and complexities.
  • 5+ architecting analytics solutions.

Additional Qualifications

Preferred

  • Successfully managed remote direct reports and worked with distributed teams.
  • 10+ years working leading quantitative/technical projects and professionals
  • 5+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Managed a 10+ person team
  • 15+ years of overall experience in large corporate environments
  • Masters+ in Natural Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics or another highly quantitative field
  • Significant applied knowledge of DevOps, MLOps processes in an open-source environment
