The Manulife Audit Services Data Analytics group supports the global audit teams by collaborating with them to provide meaningful data and successfully employ the use of data analytics in audit activities. These activities cover the different product lines and functions within the company globally. This includes Insurance, Wealth, Investment, and Banking products as well as actuarial and information technology functions.

The position of Data Scientist, Data Analytics is a key team member in contributing to the development and execution of the Data Analytics Audit Services strategy globally with a focus on North America. The successful candidate will bring their strong communication skills, innovation, a mindset for critical thinking, strategic and functional expertise, leveraged through data management and analytics to drive the success of this initiative.

This position reports to the Lead/Senior Data Scientist, Data Analytics.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops and implements analytics enabled solutions to evaluate controls and audit business objectives on data validation, consolidation and cleansing processes and independently re-performs business processes, and identifies exceptions.
  • Owns and delivers complete projects of moderate complexity to prepare and integrate large and varied datasets to build statistical and machine learning models using Python and R and perform full-population data retrievals and/or sampling on large data sets
  • Works on problems of moderate scope / complexity to Validate and quantify accuracy and precision of analysis.
  • Develop requirements, design, code, test, and analyze results to provide support on audit activities using available tools/infrastructure.
  • Work independently to support individual audits, and collaboratively with both the team and Auditors on larger project
  • Analyze, document, present analytical results Communicates results of cases of moderate complexity to business partners and recommends to audit teams and provide conclusions/recommendations on data related issues.

Training Responsibilities

  • Train and support audit teams in the analysis of captured data as well as technical training to auditors across all levels on data analytics training programs for Audit Services and where necessary provide specific training for the audit team.

SKILLS , EXPERIENCE & COMPENTENCIES

  • Advanced/Master’s Degree in a technical (computer science, statistics, math, etc.) or business discipline or equivalent technical expertise
  • 3+ years consulting experience, analytics consulting groups
  • 1-2+ years experience in Machine-Learning, data mining and statistics.
  • Excellent understanding of SQL, Python, R, Java, VBA, MS Excel, Data Extraction and Data Mining tools.
  • Advanced data analysis techniques: regression analysis, statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, distribution analysis, correlation, variance, multi-variate analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, etc.
  • Proven hands-on experience in managing libraries, database management, importing and reconciling data
  • Preferred, experience with Big Data Platforms and EDLs.
  • Preferred, expertise with visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
