Job Description

Deloitte Digital's Experience Management team combines software and services to help clients improve their data management and decisioning, delivering high value intelligence in real-time to every marketing and advertising channel.

We’re looking for a thought-leader and expert to fuel our continuing innovation and help us scale our team of talented data scientists.

Work you will do as Data Science Manager

This is a high-profile role in a well-funded team. You will have ownership of the directed research and productization of transformational ML/AI capabilities for large clients. You will combine leading ML/AI open source libraries and techniques to prototype the intelligent automation of cross-channel communications for large (multi-terabyte) clients. The data engineering team is then responsible for the coding of your team’s proven prototypes into enterprise grade products for our large clients. We have a great team of machine learning experts, data scientists, infrastructure engineers and technical writers, all of whom are committed to delivering first class software for downstream clients. Our existing stack makes heavy use of the Python machine learning ecosystem, and assembles systems to deliver massive decisioning throughput, with tight latency constraints. Our solutions may be used to service specific enterprise client marketing and advertising performance needs, but are designed to support major ML/AI transformations that service large numbers of professional data engineers and data scientists in large enterprises. If you have deep experience in researching, prototyping, and validating machine learning processes and workflows in the marketing, customer experience or advertising spaces, then we want to hear from you!

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to the VP Engineering – ML/AI Analytic Automation, you will drive the research, data science vision and realization of that vision as practical productized applications by working closely with the Data Engineering team.
  • Leading a team of 6-10 talented PhD and Masters Data Scientists with deep domain knowledge in statistical methods and ML/AI open source techniques and libraries.
  • Evangelizing disciplined quantitative research, rigorous benchmarking and prototype ML/AI development within the firm, sometimes working closely with other teams delivering modern software assets
  • Researching and developing enterprise grade machine learning automation capabilities that hugely reduce cost-per-output-decision, moving expensive human-driven decisions to lower cost and more performant machine-driven ones
  • Working closely with our product team to guide the vision, roadmap and prototyping of ML/AI and statistical analytics related product components
  • Coaching, motivating and inspiring less senior team members, and advising them on their career growth
  • Representing the ML/AI and Analytic Automation capabilities and technologies to others in the broader team and across the firm
  • Advising on functional requirements for the deployment of productized technology on client engagements

Our Team

You’ll join an existing team of passionate, talented hybrid ML engineers and R&D data scientists and who collaborate to design, build and maintain cutting-edge machine learning solutions that provide our clients with real-time customer intelligence that controls interactions with consumers. If you’re intellectually curious, hardworking and solution-oriented, you’ll fit right into our fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications and Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • A PhD or Masters in Data Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, Physics or other quantitative field
  • 10+ years of post-academic experience
  • 4+ years of experience overseeing the data science research and prototyping of analytic automation products, with evidence of successful outcomes
  • An exceptional learned ability to really understand where the greatest commercial benefits may be realized from productized ML/AI automation activities.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to explain complex subjects in simple language
  • Good experience of modern Agile software development practices, coding in Python and operating in the major cloud environments (AWS, Azure and GCP) with cloud-native capabilities.
  • Strong commitment to disciplined data science, rigorous performance benchmarking and high-quality software development
  • Experience manipulating big data (terabytes) using common opensource frameworks
  • A deep interest in Data Science ML/AI techniques and the evolving landscape.
  • A creative and naturally curious intellect.
  • Experience with distributed, high throughput and low latency architectures
  • A history of good collaboration with DevOps and Project Managers to meet agreed project goals.
  • Experience with large consumer data sets, and building productized analytic capabilities for improving customer experiences and increasing the marketing or advertising performance of large B-to-C enterprises is a major advantage.
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
