The Traveler and Partner Service Platform team is redefining traveler, partner and agent engagement. Our technology supports travelers and partners on their end-to-end customer journey by leveraging Expedia Group’s rich travel data to provide seamless operations and service experiences. We are passionate about improving the customer experience through self-serve capabilities and effortless interactions with agents, and a core part of what we deliver is a toolset to enable both automated and assisted interactions. We are looking for an analytics engineer for the Service and Operations Reporting and Analytics team. This team uses data visualization, data science, and advanced analytics to support our assisted service teams as well as Product insights for our agent tools and automated experiences.

What you’ll do:

Working with the TPSP team you will lead a team of data scientists to design and build machine learning models to enhance the performance of our key external partners using analytics and storytelling. This will require you to collaborate effectively across all business and support functions at Expedia (i.e., Executives, Customer Service, Analytics, Product, Technology, Finance & Accounting, etc.) to ensure timely delivery of high-impact work product.

You will take complex data analysis and make it simple to understand by distilling internal and external data sources into meaningful insights for leadership to make well-informed business decisions. Your drive will be an agenda of model design, visualization, automation, and scale.

  • You will apply fundamental machine learning models, algorithms, and techniques to tackle complex business problems
  • You will build end-to-end design of one step models based on detailed understanding of business requirements, including general approach, choice of algorithm and data sources.
  • You will write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions and in a way that enables efficient and accurate translation into a data pipeline.
  • Design, develop, and support robust business reporting, visualization, and impact analyses
  • You will evaluate the full complement of team talent, identify gaps, and implement action plans to fill gaps and drive achievement of work.
  • You will develop a diverse talent pipeline for a team, including onboarding, and evaluating talent gaps and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business partners across product, tech, and operations to craft improvements in reporting, analytics, and processes to ensure success, with a focus on continuous improvement, efficiency, and operational perfection

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's, Master’s, PhD degree in Math, Data Science, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experienced people manager who has effectively managed high performing talent, managed employees in different locations and contributed to department talent planning.
  • Demonstrated ability in recruiting data scientists or machine learning engineers to own team.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience in at least one major ML programming language (Python, Scala…) and familiar with others.
  • Experienced writing code in a way that enables efficient and accurate translation into a data pipeline.
  • Having good understanding of supervised and unsupervised machine learning theory.
  • Having some experience in industrial application of machine learning.
  • Knows and applies data visualization principles consistently resulting in clear and consistent outcomes.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a sense of ownership and drive

Preferred qualifications:

  • A high tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to drive action despite incomplete information.
  • Project management, planning, and organization skills, including ability to work with varied projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work optimally in teams with varied strengths, including key leaders and executives
  • Experience applying A/B tests and non-experimental methods to estimate impact
  • Experience in a customer service-related, e-commerce-related, or strategy-related field
