Data Scientist II:

The Platform and Services Data Science team within Expedia Group supports services within the e-commerce lifecycle across all brands. The team primarily works on risk mitigation functions such as Payment fraud detection, Supplier risk, Account Takeover Mitigation and Dispute management. Our team is tasked with building predictive machine learning models, setting up detection strategies, performing in-depth analysis to identify gaps/opportunities for risk remediation and metrics development.

Our team is looking for a Data Scientist to join the team and contribute towards solving complex problems and tackle illicit behaviors within the Expedia Group marketplace.

What you'll do:

As a Data Scientist II in the E-commerce Data Science team you will:

• Be adept at quantitative analysis, perform experiments and deep dives to identify new opportunities / improvement

• Apply statistical methods to evaluate new risk mitigation strategies and make feature engineering recommendations for model improvement

• Develop metrics and KPIs for robust performance measurement across services

• Have a sense of curiosity and excitement for always exploring the unknown

• Continuously collaborate with teams from other disciplines such as Product, Machine learning Scientists, Operations and Engineering

• Be a team player

Who you are:

• Analytical thinking and ability to transform business needs into quantitative problems

• Advanced SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation

• Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (Python, R, etc.) Understanding of fundamentals on statistics, prediction analytics, and machine learning

• Data visualization skills for communicating results to stakeholders of different technical levels

• Experience in working with large datasets (Million rows and more)

• Critical thinking and showing an inquisitive mind

• 1-2+ years working experiences in quantitative analytics or Data Science field for Bachelors / Masters grad (preference for Mathematics or Scientific degree) OR 2+ years working experience in a comparable data analytics role with relevant experience

• Nice to haves: Experience in an e-commerce company working with event-based data; Prior experience in the fraud detection, risk mitigation domain; Rudimentary knowledge on Causal Inference

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000 to $156,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
