Expedia Services is building the platform that will enable what is next in travel. The Senior Manager of Data Science & Analytics will lead a technical team supporting the Finance organization with a focus on building automated forecasting models and creating standardized self-service reporting for the company. This includes leading engineers through the full development lifecycle of design, architecture, and build for quality solutions. The role requires an individual that is passionate about leveraging data and tools to drive insights into the business and better decisions.

The Senior Manager will lead a data science and analytics team while also partnering with business and technology teams across Expedia. The role requires an ability to think strategically and analytically with a focus on delivery. You will use Agile methodologies to establish plans and work closely with program management, technology, and business partners to distill product ideas down into shippable feature sets. Success in this role will include creating new tools, effective communication, understanding the business, and going to get what’s next. The Senior Manager will be a key partner in moving towards a more automated approach to forecasting and reporting by embracing our values and looking for ways to force simplicity while driving continuous 
improvement.

What you'll do??:

  • You will be a leader, influencer, and contributor across our Data Science and Finance teams
  • Partner with the business to develop a strategy and roadmap for how we utilize automation and machine learning to improve forecasting and reporting
  • Manage projects from inception to close, with superb planning and communication skills to establish timelines, prioritize work, and set partner expectations
  • Facilitate productive discussions to establish requirements and consider design alternatives in reviews with cross-functional teams
  • Strive to continuously improve the operations, processes, methodologies, technology choices and practices of the team
  • Communicate complex concepts to Finance and business leaders
  • Guide team in data visualization technology decisions & design by gathering business requirements, creating development specifications, and presenting recommendations to leadership
  • Cultivate effective relationships and collaborate with business, technology, program management, and other partner teams
  • Lead and mentor team to define project scope, design solution, prioritize stories, and ensure delivery to project timelines through application of Agile methodology & tools
  • Engage in concept discussions and propose technical solutions to meet business objectives
  • Build an extraordinary team environment

Who you are:

  • 8+ years in business intelligence, reporting, and/or analytical roles
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, Master’s preferred
  • Strong people management skills and ability to successfully lead up, down, and across the organization
  • Experience with predictive analytics, machine learning algorithms, and data science fundamentals
  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages like Python/R
  • Expert-level SQL Server skills (SSMS, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, Visual Studio)
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical & visualization tools, including Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc.
  • Proven hands-on experience with data modeling and ETL
  • Experience with engineering data pipelines using big data technologies (Hive,Spark,Presto etc.) and data orchestration tools like Airflow, with a focus on building and automating data quality frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to design & develop high quality data visualizations
  • Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences
  • Analytical problem solver, assessing challenges and opportunities, taking appropriate risks
  • Demonstrated record driving key initiatives and timelines with minimal supervision
  • Results driven, highly motivated, and curious with a growth mindset and willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Experience in travel, technology, or e-commerce businesses preferred
