What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a thought leader for informing macroeconomic forecasting efforts, within the Data Science team, across different financial variables relevant to Stripe’s business model
  • Formulate firm-wide macroeconomic scenarios and narratives that are utilized across for modeling and corporate planning efforts
  • Develop statistical models to forecast drivers of profitability and capital utilization under different macroeconomic scenarios
  • Conduct quantitative analyses on our user and product portfolio trends, and derive actionable insights on business drivers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly Finance, Risk, Sales, Product and Engineering, and drive initiatives related to product design, pricing, risk mitigation and corporate planning. 
  • Use data and models to design strategies for optimizing Stripe’s risk-return tradeoffs while preserving and improving the user experience
  • Spin up proofs of concept for different applications and iterate to build scalable solutions
  • Shape and influence our data models and instrumentation to generate economic insights and develop new data products and models

Who you are

We’re looking for an experienced Macroeconomist to work within our Data Science team and partner with the Risk & Reward Management team to drive the use of data and macroeconomic modeling for forecasting financial impact under different macroeconomic scenarios and for driving data-driven strategies across Risk, Sales and Product areas. The ideal candidate has experience in macroeconomic research and modeling, thinks creatively about measurement that leads to actionable outcomes, and values rigor in data and modeling.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in macroeconomic research, including 3+ years experience in data science/quantitative modeling
  • A PhD or MS in a quantitative field (e.g., Economics, Finance, Statistics)
  • Strong understanding of macroeconomics and statistical modeling, and experience building and calibrating those models to fit specific business needs
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, R, Python, Matlab, C++, or equivalent.
  • A demonstrated ability and interest in solving complex and ambiguous problems in a cross-functional setting
  • Ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate results clearly and a focus on driving impact
