Job Description
Stripe’s core mission is to reduce the barriers faced by large and emerging businesses around the world by abstracting away the complexities of payments. The Global team is responsible for building the payment products & infrastructure needed to launch new markets and process payments successfully around the world.
Stripe builds economic infrastructure to grow the GDP of the internet. In the same way we are building the payment infrastructure of the internet, we are now also building the tax infrastructure for the internet. Our goal is to remove the burden of tax compliance for online businesses and enable Stripe to expand and grow in new markets and across new segments.
This is a unique opportunity to shape a foundational new product for Stripe that will be used by the next generation of ambitious online businesses. We’re looking for a data scientist to partner with the Stripe Tax team to help us understand product adoption, test impact of various product decisions and build models to improve accuracy.
You will:
- Work closely with a new product and business team to understand and solve complex problems in the product analytics and data science space
- Design, analyse, and interpret the results of statistical experiments in order to influence product decisions
- Apply statistical models and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to infer accurate tax categories
- Lead across the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
We’re looking for someone who has:
- A PhD or MS in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science)
- Expert knowledge of Python OR R and SQL
- Strong knowledge of machine learning and statistical experimentation
- Experience working with multiple cross-functional teams to deliver results
- The ability to communicate results clearly with a focus on driving impact
- Some prior experience working with distributed tools (Scalding, Spark, Hadoop, etc.)
- Ideally have 4+ years experience working on large data science and machine learning related projects
