What role will you play as a member of the Colgate’s Research & Development team?

As a postdoctoral research scientist, you will work with internal and external microbiome experts to develop tools and workflows to enable the analysis of shotgun metagenomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data to aid in the development of new products with the goal of improving the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of patients with oral and skin conditions.

The responsibilities of this position are as follows:

• Develop Galaxy-based methods, tools and models to analyze large genomic datasets to identify biomarkers of health and disease, the mode of action of actives, and propose pathways and targets for further computational and biological validation
• Work closely with other data scientists, and share best practices to harmonize microbiome analysis across the organization
• Monitor literature for new computational tools and software to incorporate into internal pipelines. Identify and work with academic and industry partners to advance Colgate's analytic capabilities
• Manage and maintain commercial software licenses, renewals and updates as needed.
• Prepare tutorials and provide training to scientists as required
• Collaborate with IT to lead acquisition, maintenance, and design of data network infrastructure supporting the Biosolutions function

Required experience or qualifications:

• A PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or related field
• Hands on experience with internal Galaxy environment, cloud computing resources such as AWS and data visualization tools
• Experience with command line tools and scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, or R
• Proven ability to work within a collaborative research team and effectively interact with a broad range of researchers from distinct fields
• Strong communication skills, and able to balance several projects simultaneously
