JOB SUMMARY: General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

GA-EMS in Boulder, Colorado has an opening for a senior Scientist/Engineer to participate in and contribute to its remote sensing, advanced data processing, and software development activities. We develop innovative solutions to challenging technical problems. Our staff members are involved in a variety of research and development activities related to radar imaging technologies, and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in particular. We are recognized as a leader in advanced exploitation and algorithm development for airborne and spaceborne SAR systems. We focus on DoD/IC systems and customers, as well as the new generation of commercial SAR systems.

With consultative direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solution(s) to address a particular problem. The position will entail both technical and management responsibilities.

DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Function in an advisory or leadership role, participate in the planning and oversight of the successful resolution and implementation of engineering/research problem(s) and provide direction and guidance to professional and support staff.
  • Contribute significantly to customer communication, evaluation of business opportunities, and proposal preparation.
  • Evaluate the integration of the engineering solution within the overall engineering environment; and be responsible for planning/overseeing documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates.
  • Communicate with engineering and science professionals, solution users, and management throughout the solution development cycle; represents the company as a prime technical contact on assigned project(s)/program(s).
  • Direct and allocate technical resources and professional staff to achieve objectives.
  • Participate in the planning, selection, retention, and development of the professional staff.
  • Develop and manage development of advanced algorithms related to synthetic aperture radar, change detection, machine learning, 3D imaging, and data fusion - in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or C++
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Strong background in remote sensing, and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in particular. This may include any/all of signal processing, image analysis, interferometry, change detection and others.
  • Strong background in remote sensing data exploitation, including Automated Target Detection/Recognition, Multi-Int Fusion, or Moving Target Indication
  • A demonstrated history of project and program leadership including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
  • Expertise with one or more of Matlab, C++, Python.
  • Experience with Machine Learning (including TensorFlow) is a plus.
  • Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
