Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Manager of Data Science (f/m/d) to lead the development of the data science components in our Customer Data Platform.

The Platform

The Customer Data Platform (CDP) enables Delivery Hero’s brands to access important customer information in real-time and build a delightful customer experience on top. 

This customer data ranges from simple historical aggregates to more advanced segments and audiences, to very complex attitudinal or behavioral inferences. All ML models operate and predict on customer data.

The platform ingests data from multiple sources such as event buses and external services, performs live and batch computation and predictions, and serves it to our stakeholders’ use cases.

From a data science perspective, the challenges are two-fold:

It operates complex customer identification algorithms. These algorithms operate on graph data and aim at deduplicating customer accounts.

It operates ML models that are core to Delivery Hero’s customers' experience globally. These models are owned and operated long-term, giving the team the responsibility to constantly improve and innovate on these models.

It is positioned as a global service, meaning that your work will reach and impact consumers in 50+ countries.

Your Mission:

You own the strategic and architectural direction for the platform’s ability to compute and serve ML output. This can be slit into three broad areas:

  1. Delivery of ML capabilities to identify and deduplicate customers across multiple accounts. Use algorithms to associate these accounts and offer the company an authoritative view of customer identity.
  2. Delivery of state-of-the-art behavioral ML models for customer-related use cases that are relevant across multiple of Delivery Hero’s brands. An example would be predicting a customer’s future purchases and the value thereof. Seek close alignment with the Global Product organization in selecting the use cases and serving them through the Customer Data Platform. Build out a data science organization consisting of multiple squads led by data science managers to specialize on the most impactful models. 
  3. Own the Data Science function (practices, processes, standards, and culture) for the Customer domain. You are expected to build a multi-tiered Data Science organization that produces high-quality output in a sustainable manner, encourages personal growth and learning, and offers clear career trajectories to all Data Scientists.

Your Heroic skills:

  • 5+ years of experience building data science products, including 2+ years of data science management designing and running multiple successful teams producing high-quality output.
  • Very experienced in the entire ML workflow and in ensuring high-quality methodological choices and model validation practices.
  • Very experienced in delivering production-level models, ideally in multiple of the following areas: Marketing, Personalization, Recommendation, Operations and Optimization, or Fraud.
  • Very experienced in working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data for feature engineering and ML models.
  • Good overview of the most important (data) engineering components such as SNS, SQS, and Kafka. Relational and NoSQL database (AWS RDS, DynamoDB, EKS, Graph database), RESTful APIs, in-memory, and ETL/ELT technologies.
