Job Description

As a Principal Data Scientist, you will be focused on improving the ranking of the search results. You will be obsessed about making search results relevant so that users are able to find their favourite cuisine and items easily and faster. As a Data Science leader in our team, we expect you to have a strong and proven experience in applying ML models to solve business problems. You are a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of data science concepts, and have the ability to get clarity on ambiguous business problems.

About the team

We own and drive the search ranking for all verticals and brands of Delivery Hero. The goal of the team is to continuously innovate, and provide highly relevant search results to our users. We are a full stack team consisting of talented Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Backend Engineers, and Data Engineers. The team has end to end ownership of building ML models, deployment and maintenance of the Ranking service.

Your Mission

• Innovate and use state of the art machine learning and statistical models to make search results relevant and useful to the users
• Own the development of entire lifecycle of machine learning and statistical models from ideation, to data manipulation, to model building, to deploying it into production in collaboration with other data scientists and engineers
• Serve as a technical leader and collaborate with Product, Analytics and Engineering to define and drive data science roadmap for Ranking team
• Define and drive the best practices of data science within the search tribe. Evangelise search data science within the tribe and the wider company
• Support professional development of other data scientists through coaching and mentoring

Your heroic skills

• 7+ years of experience as a data scientist working on applying data science fundamentals to solve complex business problems
• Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s with 8+ years of experience) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Theoretical Chemistry, or Similar 
• Knowledge of a wide variety of Machine learning and Statistical methods (Classical ML, Deep Learning, NLP, and Recommendation Systems) and its pros-cons. Ability to identify best approach and methods suitable for a problem
• Strong coding skills in Python and SQL. Experience working with Scientific Python stack and Airflow
• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to navigate it to define data science problems. Ability to break a problem into manageable tasks and establish clear data science goals
• Demonstrated Industry leadership in the field of Data Science
• Effective communication and ability to explain complex work in simple terms to team members and stakeholders
• Be a role model for other data scientist in the team and help evangelise data science to the wider business
• Sound understanding of different experimentation frameworks (A/B experiment, Quasi experimentation, Multi-arm bandits)
• (nice to have) Prior experience working with learning to rank models like TF-ranking
• (nice to have) Experience working with BigQuery and GCP
