We Are Hiring: AI Research Engineer – Sonar Models

Perplexity is seeking top-level AI Research Engineers to enhance our in-house Online LLMs, the Sonar models. Your role will leverage our extensive query/answer dataset to scale Sonar model performance and deliver a state-of-the-art Online LLM experience for our users.

Responsibilities

• Post-train state-of-the-art (SOTA) LLMs on query answering using the latest supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.
• Own the full stack of data, training, and evaluation pipelines required for post-training LLM models.
• Deliver Sonar models that provide SOTA query answering.
• Work closely with engineering teams to integrate Sonar models into our product.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with large-scale LLMs and Deep Learning systems.
• Strong programming skills; versatility is a plus.
• Self-starter with a willingness to take ownership of tasks.
• Passion for tackling challenging problems.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working on relevant projects.

Nice-to-Have

• PhD in Machine Learning or related areas.
• Experience in post-training LLMs with SFT/DPO/GRPO.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $190,000 - $260,000 (final offer depends on experience and expertise).

Equity: Equity is included as part of the total compensation package.
