We Are Hiring: AI Research Engineer/Scientist – Sonar Models

Perplexity is seeking experienced AI Research Engineers and Scientists to enhance our in-house Online LLMs, the Sonar models. Your role will focus on building a robust and effective training framework (on top of Megatron/PyTorch), with a particular emphasis on post-training LLMs.

Responsibilities

• Develop a scalable post-training framework capable of running cutting-edge model training jobs at scale.
• Implement the necessary infrastructure and components to support the latest models and algorithms, such as SFT, RL (DPO/GRPO), and more.
• Own the full stack of data, training, and evaluation pipelines required for post-training LLM models.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate Sonar models into our product.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in building large-scale LLM frameworks.
• Strong proficiency in Python/PyTorch; C++/CUDA is a plus.
• Self-starter with a willingness to take ownership of tasks.
• Passion for tackling complex and challenging problems.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience working on relevant projects.

Bonus

• PhD in AI/ML/Systems or related fields.
• Experience in building LLM training frameworks, particularly for post-training.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $220,000 - $290,000 (final offer depends on experience and expertise).

Equity: Equity is included as part of the total compensation package.
