Job Description

We are engaged in content recommendation and data-driven development of VKontakte services. At the same time, we not only use ready-made solutions, but also create our own, suitable for working under conditions of high loads and big data. In addition to classical ML, we use deep learning and Bayesian methods. A typical example of our project is a system that learns on the fly to determine the prospects of new content and the audience among which it will be most in demand.

We are looking for a specialist who will work with us to develop recommendation systems, look for opportunities for growth and formulate plans for product development.

You will have to:

• formulate business problems mathematically;
• work with huge volumes of various interesting data;
• create hypotheses for improving the service, check their performance offline and implement them into production;
• conduct A/B tests and analyze the results of experiments.

It’s interesting with us because you will be able to contribute to VK Dating, a gaming platform, a super application and many other projects that are used by millions of people, as well as work with a variety of state-of-the-art solutions in the field of machine learning, for example:

• with advanced matrix factorization methods to extract information from browsing and search history;
• modern NLP and CV models;
• reinforcement learning methods;
• SNA techniques for analyzing the social graph;
• big data development and analytics on top of the Apache Spark stack;
• product science for insights and generating product hypotheses;
• analysis of the limits of applicability of models, explanation techniques for understanding their operation and specifics.

We expect you to:

• have excellent mathematical and algorithmic background;
• know machine learning methods and know how to use them correctly;
• have worked with recommendation systems or are interested in them;
• confidently speak Python, Java or Scala, as well as any SQL dialect.

It will be a plus if you:

• know how to work with big data frameworks - Spark, Hadoop;
• familiar with Bayesian machine learning methods.
