Job Description

As a member of Johnson Controls Global BAS and Controls Engineering organization, you will lead the software engineering team for a wide range of Building Automation Software applications. You will report to the Executive Director of Controls Engineering and will lead new product development and technology modernization of the portfolio as well as manage to sustain the engineering of the current generation of products. In this position, you will work in close collaboration with our Local Product Management organization, and other product engineering and functional leaders globally to promote teamwork, inspire and develop staff, drive execution excellence, and deliver market-leading offerings.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Works under general direction to define and execute development projects to align with our product strategies and achieve business objectives.
  • Works closely with product management organization and develops product and technology roadmap aligned with the NPI/PRS & business growth roadmap.
  • Accountable for product functionality, performance, quality, compliance & team productivity. This includes software architecture, feature/function software development, code modernization, cyber-security-related software, and lifecycle maintenance for a portfolio of building automation & controls solutions.
  • Drives appropriate rigor and discipline into the development process to ensure industry and customer expectations are met.
  • Works with global colleagues in other business units to establish technology platform strategies.
  • Owns the stewardship of the building automation software product throughout its lifecycle.
  • Directs a team of managers leading software applications and tools engineers in China.

Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 15 years of experience in engineering product development with 5 years of management experience related to leading engineering teams, programs, and/or projects (engineering management, project mgmt., program management) (Must)
  • 5 years and above experience in building automation & HVAC/R control software offerings & related application development by using agile methodologies including engineering leadership experience associated with architecture, design, implementation, and testing. (Must)
  • Familiar with AI, Machine Learning, iOS/Android mobile apps, IoT, and Cloud architecture development and deployment. (Better to have)
  • Experienced in typical open architecture, e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, OPC, KNX, DALI, etc. as well as the SQC, ODBC, OBC, HTML…etc. (Must)
  • Strong interpersonal & leadership skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Ability to accurately assess individual capabilities and limitations.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues across a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience in collaborating with various development teams, both domestically and internationally including the ability to travel to international locations.
  • Able to navigate through multiple areas of the businesses to establish rapport and create syne.
