What you will do:

Ancestry’s Growth, Onboarding, and Homepage Design Team is looking for a highly motivated UX Design intern to join us for Summer 2024. The experiences we craft allow users on our platform to immerse in the full Ancestry experience, connect with other members, and swiftly make new discoveries.

As a UX Design intern, you will work closely with design mentors within our warm and friendly design team. You’ll collaborate with customers, product managers, user researchers, and software engineers, bringing digital experiences to life. Learn how to effectively communicate your concepts and requirements to a cross-functional team and gain invaluable experience working in an agile development environment. Your work will impact millions of customers across Ancestry’s family history and DNA products and be seen by Ancestry leadership, your intern peers, and your coworkers.

  • Contribute to product vision using data, analytics, benchmarking, and user feedback to define problems and opportunities
  • Partner with consumer insight teams, data scientists in biology and genomics, professional genealogists, legal partners and other stakeholders to inform decisions
  • Communicate design solutions through sketches, user flows, wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes
  • Define user test plans, conduct testing to validate concepts, and transfer insights into quality experiences
  • Participate in scrum events with a team of software engineers to define how designs will be built, tested and released on Ancestry’s platform of web, mobile web and native applications

Who You Are: 

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in visual design (UX, UI, human-centered, interactive, or similar design discipline)
  • Submit a link to portfolio with work that showcases proficiency in the UX design process and high-quality visual design (These 2-3 projects can consist of actual work and/or coursework)
  • Fluency in UX design tools such as Figma
  • Use of additional design, prototyping, motion design tools, i.e. Framer, Adobe Creative Suite, a plus

Internship Program Details:

  • Students must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. educational institution with a graduation date after August 2024.
  • Summer 2024 program dates are May 13 – September 6 (Please note we will have three intern onboarding dates to choose from: May 13th, May 28th, and June 10th. Students may offboard every Friday, beginning August 9th. All internships must be wrapped up by September 6th).
  • FULLY PAID temporary housing and travel to and from the internship are provided.
  • All summer internships will be in Lehi, Utah. You will work a combined hybrid and office-based schedule that allows you to choose which days you come into the office and which days you work from temporary housing/home (Utah students).
  • Interns have the opportunity to network and partner with other interns and industry-leading professionals.
  • You will participate in engaging events, including executive speaker sessions, professional development, and our annual Intern Days to showcase your project and work.
  • You will be required to work a full-time schedule (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday.
  • Company-issued laptop and equipment will be provided for the duration of the internship program.
