United's Digital Technology team designs, develops, and maintains massively scaling technology solutions brought to life with innovative architectures, data analytics, and digital solutions.

Job overview and responsibilities

  • During your rotational experience, you will be fully immersed in our collaborative culture built on diversity of thought. Our teams will be looking for your curiosity and your unique point of view. Candidates selected for the Early Career Digital Leadership Program will commit to four (4) six-month rotations for a total of 2 years.
  • Candidates will work across at least two separate portfolios in technical and process-oriented roles, gaining cross-portfolio knowledge and increasing their overall digital technology acumen at United. Based on team placement, candidates may receive the opportunity to work directly with others in the program.
  • Regardless of the team, all candidates will receive continuous growth opportunities through technical, personal, and leadership events outside their direct role.
  • Candidates selected for the Early Career Digital Leadership Program will be given detailed assignment overviews and self-select into a role-based interest ranking and skillset. Positions will be awarded based on seniority in the program. Specific duties will vary based on the team placement within Digital Technology.
  • Roles may include but are not limited to: software development, business analytics, project management, cybersecurity, AWS cloud, machine learning, and more.

Job functions will vary based on specific team placement:

  • Cybersecurity and digital risk focus on ensuring applications are secure by addressing vulnerabilities both proactively and ongoing
  • Infrastructure, cloud, and engineering focuses on moving applications to the cloud and developing cloud best practices
  • Operations technology focuses on building and maintaining applications that support our front-line employees, including but not limited to applications for flight attendants, gate agents, pilots, and more
  • Digital Channels technology focuses on building, enhancing, and maintaining customer-facing applications such as United.com and the United mobile app
  • Digital channels strategy focuses on data analytics, data engineering, and process engineering & efficiency

Qualifications

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience working on a fast pace, results oriented team in a summer internship capacity
  • Experience working on individual tasks and projects independently with little direction
  • Knowledge of Data Structures
  • Knowledge of Rest API’s
  • Knowledge of Git/SVN
  • Knowledge of Agile software development cycles
  • Exceptional technical, analytical and problem solving skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork
  • Object Oriented Programming
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Successful completion of Digital Technology Summer Internship Program
  • At least one 12 week summer internship in Digital Technology at United Airlines
  • Preferred Knowledge of: WCF, REST, SOAP, ORMs, Python, Java, JavaScript, Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008, Configuration driven application
  • Development, Version control and continuous integration principles, Message queuing systems and IIS configuration
  • Foundational United specific digital technology knowledge acquired in 12 week internship
  • Experience with Test Driven Design
  • Experience with MVC(Model, view, Controller) architecture
