What will you be doing?

As a Data Engineer at CBRE, you have an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of the real estate industry. You will be an integral part of our Data Intelligence team, responsible for developing and managing the data infrastructure that supports CBRE's data-driven mission. The team consists of the Head of Data Intelligence, 3 data analysts, a data engineer, a geo analyst, a data steward and an intern. We are currently moving from a PostgreSQL data base towards a Snowflake database meanwhile professionalizing our data ingestion pipelines, database model, and data management efforts. You will be crucial in this transition and your work will directly impact our ability to develop cutting edge innovative solutions, enabling our brokers and consultants to better serve our clients with data-backed recommendations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the data manager and Data Intelligence team to design and develop the database model, ensuring it meets the business requirements, is compatible to the data sources and aligns with CBRE's data architecture and compliance guidelines.
  • Create robust data ingestion pipelines to transfer data to Snowflake, utilizing best practices for technical data base modeling, security, compliance, coding, documentation, and overall data quality.
  • Maintain and optimize the existing PostgreSQL data mart and prioritize data migration to Snowflake in collaboration with the data manager.
  • Develop SQL-based tables within the reporting layer of the database, enabling efficient data retrieval for analytics and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to design and implement effective database models for various products and projects. 
  • Lead efforts to establish and maintain best practices for database management, including table structures, relationships, coding standards, and query optimization.
  • Identify and explore new data sources requested by the business, evaluating their connection to the existing database model.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to data sources, ETL processes, and the overall data environment.
  • Contribute to data governance efforts, including the implementation of a data governance solution.

What can you offer us?

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering, Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 1 – 3 years working experience in equivalent field.
  • Demonstrable experience in Python and SQL, showcasing proficiency in data manipulation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of database modeling and data management practices, with a strong understanding of relational database concepts. Experience with dimension modeling is highly valued.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for data accuracy and integrity.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, capable of working effectively within a team and across different business units.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with an innovative mind set and drive to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and modeling.
  • Experience in designing and implementing data ingestion pipelines and ETL processes.

Preferred qualifications (not required but advantageous):

  • Interest in real estate industry.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake or other cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and data security best practices.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and high-demanding international organization.
