Job Summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Principal Director of Finance & Accounting serves as the leader for the financial and accounting operations, programs, and initiatives for The Aerospace Corporation. Areas of responsibility include financial compliance and strategy, internal and external reporting, and general accounting operations. This position ensures the finance organization’s strategy, operations, and initiatives are supporting The Aerospace Corporation objectives.

This position oversees the General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, Travel Accounting and Services, and Civil Systems Group (CSG) Billing departments.

Work Model: 

This position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with some onsite work required in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage finance and accounting departments to ensure fiscal responsibility, accountability and compliance with Aerospace Corporation, and statutory requirements and regulations 
  • Maintain and implement finance and accounting policies and procedures
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective financial controls and guidelines
  • Accelerate digital finance initiatives, including adopting routine process automation, manual work elimination, identifying resilient process optimization strategies and building digital finance acumen among employees
  • Monitor, evaluates and report on the efficiency and effectiveness of digital finance activities via key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics
  • Oversee accurate and timely dissemination of financial reporting including external monthly reporting, annual audits, and all external financial reporting requirements
  • Evaluate, manage & create/implement mitigation strategies for financial risk
  • Improve financial and business processes, in a culture of continual improvement, and in support of evolving corporate strategies
  • Oversee timely monthly and annual closing of accounting records
  • Determine adherence with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ensure Aerospace Corporation has the policies, procedures, internal controls, segregation of duties, and systems in place to support effective program implementation, and to ensure successful audits
  • Perform as the key liaison for Corporate and employee benefit plan audit partners
  • Responsible for bank operating and capital financing relationships
  • Oversight of corporate partner relationships such as airlines, travel hospitality providers, corporate card vendors
  • Ability to effectively oversee accounting activities for the corporation’s foreign operations

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
  • Ten or more years of experience in finance and accounting
  • Five or more years of experience managing teams in a senior leadership role
  • Ability to effectively direct and develop the organization’s Directors and Managers
  • Effective at balancing organizational goals with corporate objectives
  • Ability to work effectively cross organizationally
  • Proficiency in General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations
  • Knowledge of employee benefit plans, and principles of actuarial concepts
  • Ability to manage corporate vendors and partners
  • Possess strong decision making and judgement
  • Knowledge and understanding of management of cash flows
  • Ability to understand, update, and improve corporate contracts such as banking, long-term financing, and other corporate partners/vendors

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • MBA or advanced degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Experience in the management and operations of a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) operating environment or equivalent government contracting environment
  • Prior experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) strategy, implementation, and operations
  • Experience with SAP S4 HANA
  • Knowledge and proficiency in digital technologies, including robotic process automation (RPA), machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP)

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$170,000 - $205,000 - $240,000
