The National Systems Group serves as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its mission partners involved in the collection and distribution of national and tactical intelligence, including electronics programs, advanced technologies, ground and communications, imagery programs, and systems engineering and launch.

The Advanced Technology Directorate is seeking an innovative AI/ML Ground Software Engineer (Project Engineer) to work on the nation’s leading research and development challenges for future ISR architectures. The Advanced Systems program office helps customers architect both new and future systems to effectively embrace advancements in automation and AI/ML as well as assessing the movement of functionalities traditionally found on the ground to the system edges. The work involves traditional ground systems as well as innovating new architectures for the deployment of ground functions to vehicle platforms. Our next team member will have the opportunity to influence an organization developing and operating high priority demonstration systems in addition to designing and leading projects to reduce risk or research new technology concepts through prototype development.

This position requires 100% on site work in Chantilly, VA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Running a portfolio of projects to apply Aerospace expertise to recommend solutions to challenges faced by future ISR architectures – examples of these challenges include; enterprise collection orchestration, human-machine teaming, and vehicle and analytic autonomy
  • Shepherd and champion organizational implementation of new technologies
  • Facilitate transfer from Aerospace and other departments of research results and prototypes
  • Provide guidance for development and acquisition of small satellite common ground enterprise capabilities
  • Work directly with Government, other FFRDC and SETA staff to design and implement ground-breaking roadmaps
  • Develop effective recommendations and strategies to advance customer vision

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering, mathematics, or science field
  • A minimum of 8 years engineering experience.
  • Understanding of modern software development methodologies (i.e. – agile, SAFe).
  • Experience using AI/ML to solve difficult problems.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely with government management.
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and polygraph, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

  • An advanced degree in engineering, computer science or related applicable technical field.
  • Experience with Enterprise solutions that enable modular additions of ground applications such as command and control, mission management and data processing.
  • Experience in supporting the planning and development of ground architectures and/or programs.
  • Knowledge of solution architecting, systems engineering processes, project management.
  • Involvement with research and development organizations.
  • Experience with mission operations.
  • Expertise in prioritizing, leading, and completing projects with a matrixed organization.
  • Strong personal initiative.
