The Datacentric Platforms and Architectures Department seeks a creative and hard-working software or data engineer to join a team of motivated engineers passionate about researching, prototyping, understanding, and building data platforms for the space enterprise. Join us to accomplish innovative work on modern data platforms that adopt the cloud and encompass self-service features. 

This role is hybrid with onsite presence in Chantilly, VA.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Build data platforms and architectures for various data domains that provide operational excellence, security, reliability, performance & cost optimization. We use these platforms to increase velocity and innovation for Aerospace and our customers.
  • Lead, coordinate, and collaborate with multi-functional teams, customers, and vendors for developing and implementing an overall organizational data strategy of enterprise data systems. This includes data model designs and prototypes, implementation and management of data warehouses or databases, and data analytics platforms.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Sr. Data Engineer: (Engineering Specialist)

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field(s)
  • 8 or more years of experience in relevant fields in the industry.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of programming languages such as Python and/or Java
  • Familiarity with data integration tools and pipelines such as Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, AWS services, custom built services, or others
  • Experience with building high-performance data architectures
  • Familiarity with docker containers and cloud deployments (ex., AWS, Azure, Kubernetes/EKS)
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL database solutions (ex., MongoDB, MySQL)
  • Willingness to obtain a Top Secret/SSBI clearance

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced [Masters, PhD] degree from an accredited program in computer science or other applicable STEM concentration
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud services
  • Knowledge of semantic data management or graph databases (ex. Neo4J, AWS Neptune)
  • Current Top Secret/SSBI clearance
