Job Description

We’re looking for a talented leader for our WHOOP Labs teams. This department owns the broadly defined validation of our hardware including end-user experience and comfort, signal quality, and real world stress testing. WHOOP Labs is also responsible for collecting field data that enables the Data Science, Soft Goods, and Signal Processing teams to build novel products and algorithms. To serve the company’s diverse testing and validation needs, WHOOP Labs completes tens of thousands of data collections a year, this data shapes every aspect of the product and directly contributes to advancing WHOOP technology. 

We’re looking for someone with a proven track record leading and growing a cross-functional team, who is excited to work with our members, with our engineering departments, and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get sweaty. This position is in-person in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities:

• Communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Advocate for the needs of WHOOP Labs and its team members. 
• Develop, manage and scale the WHOOP Labs teams and their processes; evangelize these processes and best practices across the organization
• Partner with stakeholders from engineering, product, apparel, signal processing, and data science to evaluate roadmapping tradeoffs and efficiently manage lab resources
• Ensure clear communication across the team and stakeholders.
• Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of lab initiatives and track progress towards goals
• Build the WHOOP Labs brand
• Reports to the SVP of Data Science and Research 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field, exercise science, biomechanics, or a related field
• 6+ years of full-time professional experience in a related area
• 2+ years of success leading a diversely skilled team, experience managing a dispersed team preferred
• Demonstrated ability to scale and lead a world class team
• Experience in experimental design and R&D
• Understanding of best practices regarding human research, including how to obtain IRB approval for new research projects; research ethics, data privacy, and consent. 
• Track record of successful project management, including resource allocation, timeline management, and risk mitigation
• Strong technical skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel or basic scripting
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Strong organizational skills, ability to plan ahead while still being flexible and able to work around challenges
• Strong networking and collaboration skills, with experience in building partnerships and engaging with external stakeholders
• Ability to present findings to stakeholders and communicate results to all colleagues
• Excitement to work in a high-energy, fast-paced startup environment
• Understanding of exercise physiology and athletic experience is preferred

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
