At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance. WHOOP empowers users to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. Our wearable device tracks key physiological metrics such as heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep quality to provide personalized insights into users' fitness, health, and recovery. Our Stress feature gives users insights into their mental state and helps them manage their stress. 

As an intern with WHOOP's Coaching Infrastructure Team, you will have the opportunity to work on building and optimizing the infrastructure that supports WHOOP's coaching and training features. You will collaborate with the team to develop solutions using Java to tackle scaling challenges and ensure the smooth operation of WHOOP's coaching platform. This is a 10-week internship that offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a focus on personal and professional growth.

Throughout this 10-week internship, you will work on real-world projects, learn from experienced professionals, and gain hands-on experience building and optimizing a production-level coaching infrastructure. You will be exposed to scaling challenges and learn how to develop solutions using Java to ensure the reliability and performance of a large-scale platform. You will receive feedback and guidance from the Coaching Infrastructure Team and have the opportunity to develop new skills and grow personally and professionally.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with the Coaching Infrastructure Team to design, develop, and optimize Java-based applications and services that support WHOOP's coaching and training features.
• Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of backend systems, APIs, and databases to support the scaling needs of the coaching platform.
• Participate in code reviews, write documentation, and provide input on best practices to maintain high-quality code standards and system reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, and product managers, to contribute to the overall development of WHOOP's coaching platform.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with Java and Java-based frameworks and technologies.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with backend development, APIs, and databases.
• Ability to analyze and optimize performance and scalability of Java applications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Passion for tackling challenging scaling issues and building robust software systems.
