Job Description

Genmab is currently seeking a (Senior) Data Scientist in Discovery and Early Translational Research to be based at the Utrecht office in the Netherlands. This is a highly collaborative role between the Data Science, Discovery and Early Translational Research departments.

You will work in a multidisciplinary, international team of world-class scientists with state-of-the-art knowledge of the antibody and oncology field. The goal is to work with multiple early translational teams to bring new, groundbreaking antibody therapeutics to the clinic. We use a highly integrated combination of wet lab, in-vivo, computational and bioinformatics approaches to advance our understanding of cancer and the effect of our molecules.

You will work on several Early Translational Research programs together with Scientists from the Early Translational Research department. Together the questions for each program will be discussed and assessed to find available dataset, generate data and analysis are planned. Common data science questions are about indication selection, prioritization, and the Mode of Action (MoA).

As a (Senior) Data Scientist in the Discovery Data Science team, you will get the unique opportunity to make a large impact on the development of ground-breaking new medicines to serve cancer patients with high unmet medical needs. This initial 12-month fixed term contract role has the potential to be extended and to transition into a permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • You will lead the partnership between data science and translational research teams focusing on bringing promising new therapeutic candidates forward.
  • You work independently, formulating next steps and driving translation programs
  • You are well-aware of the biological context of projects and can provide biological interpretations of your results to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds.
  • You lead relevant projects, both in house as well as outsourced to service providers.
  • You demonstrate ownership of your projects and collaborations, becoming the main point of contact for all projects that occur within your purview.
  • You are responsible for the visualization of complex data, reducing complex problems into intuitive explanations that can be presented to a diverse scientific audience.
  • You play a pivotal role in the development of and expansion of (standardized) analysis workflows to support your work and the organization in general.
  • You act to translate that into an array of technology evaluation pilots, external partnerships, and work-streams to advance translational research and help us get molecules from the research stage into the clinic.
  • You report scientific results in patents, publications, and regulatory documents.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD degree in the computational biology/immunology field or biology, bioinformatics.
  • 2-5 years or more experience in a similar position within industry or as a postdoctoral researcher.
  • You have a strong biology background, preferably in immunology, oncology and/or (antibody) drug development.
  • You have strong programming skills (R, git) and are experienced in using cloud services for storage and computing. R shiny and python skills are a plus.
  • Experience with (early) clinical/translational
  • Experience with state-of-the art genomics technologies such as single cell RNA-sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, proteomics and associated algorithms and programs is a strong plus.
  • You have experience with applied statistics. Modeling, and machine learning is a plus.
  • You are enthusiastic, creative, goal orientated, pro-active and out-of-the-box thinking with a strong ability to work independently.
  • You are experienced in working in a multidisciplinary team. Can liaise between the worlds of computational biology and translational biology. Provide biological interpretations of your results to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds
  • You have published in peer-reviewed journals, references, and external presentations.
