The role

Genmab is currently seeking a Senior Research Associate based in the Discovery Data Science department based in Utrecht or Copenhagen. This is a highly collaborative role between the Data Science and the Discovery research department.

You will work in a multidisciplinary, international team of experienced scientists with deep knowledge of immunology and antibody development, with the goal of bringing new, groundbreaking antibody therapeutics to the clinic. We leverage state-of-the-art protein characterization assays and advanced data analysis methods to help improve our therapeutics. Dry- and wet-lab researchers collaborate towards defining project questions, discussing methodology, designing experiments, assessing results, modelling data, and validating predictions. Projects involve computational sequence- and structure-based protein and antibody engineering,

As a Senior Research Associate in the Discovery Data Science department, you will make an impact on the development of ground-breaking new medicines to serve cancer patients with unmet medical needs. In addition, as a fully integrated biotech company, Genmab will give you the chance to experience drug development from discovery to translation into the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • You will work closely with data scientists and wet-lab scientists to curate and analyze experimental data related to antibody developability.
  • You will conduct exploratory data analysis and statistical analyses.
  • You will feed ideas and analyses into the design of new experiments.
  • You will train machine-learning models, experimenting with methods, parameters and datasets, to achieve top predictive performance for antibody properties.
  • You spar ideas with colleagues and engage in scientific and technical discussions.
  • You are well-aware of the biological context of projects and can provide biological interpretations of your results to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds.
  • You have excellent communication and collaboration skills to productively contribute to large, multidisciplinary projects in a multicultural team, all while valuing positive attitude and well-being in the workplace.
  • You are responsible for the visualization of complex results, turning highly technical concepts into intuitive explanations that can be presented to a diverse scientific audience.

Requirements

  • You hold a MSc in the field of computer science, computational biology, biophysics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics or related fields. Alternatively, you hold a BSc with 2 years more of relevant work experience.
  • You have 3-5 years' experience in a comparable role, preferable in industry.
  • You code proficiently in Python (pandas, numpy, seaborn, scikit-learn).
  • You have a good understanding of statistics and basic machine-learning principles.
  • You have a solid grasp on molecular biology and protein science.
  • You are familiar with version control system such as Git.
  • You are an enthusiastic, creative, goal orientated, pro-active and out-of-the-box thinker with a strong ability to work independently.
  • You are a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with great command of English, written and spoken. Dutch or Danish not required.
  • You are able to work 32-40 hours/week (37 for Denmark) and approx. 2-3 days per week at our offices in Utrecht or Copenhagen.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Understanding of antibody biology.
  • Proficient in molecular modelling, protein structure prediction, and computational methods for structural analysis. Experience with software such as Rosetta, PyMOL, or similar tools.
  • You are familiar with popular geometric deep learning architectures.
  • Experience with MLOps platforms, such as MLflow.
  • You published in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing environments such as Databricks or AWS.
