What is the Opportunity?

As a Director, Cyber Data Science, we’re looking for an incredible individual that will help with the analysis, design, and implementation of data science / machine learning solutions using RBC’s enterprise suite of analytics tools to proactively detect Digital and Cyber threats.

Data Science allows us to better understand the implications of what information means, identify trends, anticipate malicious behaviors, perform pattern matching, discover new threats and predict the outcomes of future events. Working as part of Joint Security Operations Center (JSOC), you’ll specialize in taking full advantage of large data sets to explore and discover new insights that would have not been possible with traditional analytics. Leveraging leading edge technologies and capabilities, you’ll apply machine learning and statistical modelling techniques to help RBC to proactively defend its digital information.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Work in collaboration with business units to drive strategic value through Cyber Data Science methodologies, this includes predictive analytics models to identify digital threats, automation to drive speed and efficiencies, in addition to real-time decision engines that improve the security posture of RBC.
  • Build and manage a service catalog of machine learning and statistical modeling tools / capabilities / products. Develop a set of standard tools that can be leveraged quickly and efficiently. This includes building deep expertise in these tools so we can accelerate access to value for our business partners.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of data scientists and data science product owners/managers. Building a high-performance culture to attract, coach, mentor and develop innovative and highly collaborative teams. Allocating time for employees’ personal development and growth. In addition, manage workload across the team to ensure a set amount of time is allocated to drive new and innovative thinking (research and development).
  • Provide technical and thought leadership to the team ensuring that they apply the latest Data Science, ML and AI techniques and industry best practices to enable the most strategic business priorities.
  • Provide recommendations, strategic input, and collaborate directly with senior leadership to identify and pursue new data science opportunities in cyber security.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Masters or PHD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or other related areas
  • 5+ years of experience in data science solutions and applying analytics techniques.
  • Experience in programming and scripting languages and data visualization.
  • Previous people management experience, leading teams to monetize data into actionable insights and service offerings.
  • Experience with data architectures, data warehousing, and data modeling.
  • Experience with moving prototypes to production environment and optimizing models in production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of design, development, and implementation experience utilizing data science technologies.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, and managing data science teams.

Nice-to-have

  • 3+ years of experience with big data technologies – Hadoop (Pig, Hive), noSQL/SQL databases, parallel processing techniques and Apache Spark
  • Working experience in cyber security space.
  • Familiar with data extract, transform, and load processes with a variety of data types.
