Our ETG (Edge Technology Group) develops and operates multiple services deployed on the cloud. Within ETG, the Platform Data Experience team (PDX) operates One of the largest Big Data systems in the world that aggregates and stores every Akamai network transaction; beneficial to analytics, billing, reporting, intelligence, and decision support. PDX systems receive over 12PB/day of data and process over 7 trillion records per day.

This Principal Architect position is a highly technical position that requires an engineer with great technical skill, leadership skill, creativity and a knack for solving difficult issues. You will be involved in the design, implementation and maintenance of critical data reporting and analytic systems. These systems are essential for Akamai's content distribution network and is used 24/7 across the world.

As a Principal Architect, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the system and product architecture activities for a team of over 80 engineers working in collaboration working on Akamai's the next generation big data system.
  • Designing, developing and rollout of Big Data systems and services.
  • Collaborating with architects, product owners, scrum masters, and QA to deliver to market mission critical data systems.
  • Developing new and enhancing existing capabilities within data reporting and analytics services.
  • Following SW development methodology best practices. Leading feature development from idea inception through design, testing to operational deployment.
  • Working on projects that focus on system scalability, performance and security.
  • Working with our multi-tier engineering support teams to troubleshoot complex problems of our network

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have 15 years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, another related field or its equivalent.
  • Have 10 years of experience as a big data architect.
  • Have vast experience with one or more of the following languages: Go, C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, Ruby.
  • Have extensive experience with of some of the following technologies: Hadoop, Spark , Azure, K8s, Columnar DBs.
  • Have experience with Internet Protocols.
  • Have experience with Big data security.
  • Have experience with 3rd party cloud development such as Azure or AWS
