Job Description

Sony Corporation of America (SCA), is seeking a Director, Data Engineering, GSIRT-US to join the Global Information Security Department organization located in Herndon,VA. This position will report to the Senior Director of Security Capability and be responsible for maintaining strong customer relationships and deploying GISD tools to Sony Group Companies to maintain and improve Sony’s overall Security monitoring coverage.


Responsibilities:

  • Drive towards a holistic view of Sony’s data from on-prem to cloud, and provide centralized and actionable views to build research, monitoring, and reporting capabilities
  • Leverage experience to build efficient and scalable data platforms utilizing best in class tools and services
  • Deliver data-driven solutions that are customer focused, easy to consume and create sustained business value
  • Build and maintain optimized and highly available data pipelines for both real-time and batch data processing
  • Lead the design, configuration, engineering, integration, and implementation of data platforms components and services
  • Deliver end-to-end data solutions that are highly available, scalable, stable, secure, and cost effective
  • Design and customize complex data models, search queries, dashboards, and promote data-driven solutions in support of the GISD organization’s mission
  • Architect and manage the global enterprise scale Splunk Core and Enterprise Security implementation
  • Define our organizational long-term security objectives and strategies, informed by enterprise-wide goals of Sony but tailored for the unique dimensions of security risk that respective organizational units may face; be able translate those into practical execution and plans to deliver against them
  • Lead the design and implement holistic data management solutions to improve Sony’s security posture and aide in reducing mean-time-to-resolve security incidents, threats and/or security events
  • Provide expert level technical expertise to drive towards the right and practical solutions that meet the business needs within the required timelines
  • Serve as the ambassador for all things data including data processing, cleansing, data platform engineering, data presentation, data architecture and analytics
  • Effectively drive the teams to focus on the task at hand and align team objectives to corporate goals
  • Define Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), strategic risk indicators, and metrics/scorecards to understand current health and drive insights into focus future focus areas for the team/division before issues occur/risks are realized
  • Surface insights to leadership, and C+E senior leadership team, as needed, to update and influence
  • Develop and operationalize new program within each capability areas from RFP, to testing, to deployment, to assessments. 
  • Follow the Plan, Do, Check, Act model
  • Lead the evaluation of emerging data science technologies including testing and integration of new solutions
  • Monitor and evaluates internal and external technology trends and changes that could impact GSIRT’s data driven security programs and capabilities

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in the Data Sciences field required with deep understanding of large multi-national enterprise environment, cloud technologies, and cyber security
  • 8+ years of previous senior-level management experience with a demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, and develop high performing teams
  • 5+ years of Splunk at an architect level
  • 5+ years of experience with Unix/Linux, and AWS engineering/administration
  • Deep hands-on technical data engineering experience that can engage with technical leaders to solve hard problems, but can work with and translate that to a business leadership and executive audience
  • Expert level Splunk architecture and SPL experience required. Splunk Architect certification is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of Statistics, Data Analysis, Data Engineering required
  • ETL/data pipeline experience
  • Solid SQL/SPL/R/Python skills
  • Experience with BI tools
  • Well versed in modern security principles, approaches, methods, and frameworks
  • Simplify the complex to achieve business results and outcomes via strong collaboration across various divisions and businesses at Sony.
  • Analyze complex problems, think creatively, communicate recommendations, influence change and be able to drive process and structure into an extremely dynamic environment
  • Exceptional program and project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound problem resolution, judgment, negotiating and decision making skills
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to accomplish assigned tasks
