HP is growing its investment in big data services and solutions to create a next generation of data driven product insights and business intelligence. We are looking for an experienced data scientist to lead the evolution and revolution of our big data analytics, predictive models, and related technical initiatives across HP’s print businesses. It is vital for the candidate to possess strong business acumen to understand and anticipate the business’ need for predictive models, strong technical leadership to design, build, and test scalable predictive models, as well as team management leadership to lead a team of 3-4 data scientists.

The ideal candidate will exhibit unique mastery of the big data domain, and be a recognized authority on relevant subject matter knowledge including machine learning and predictive models, who will contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas. This position will provide highly innovative solutions, manage a small team of data scientists, and lead cross-division projects that affect the organization’s long-term goals and objectives. Regularly provides mentoring and guidance to lower level employees and senior management. Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and criteria for achieving objectives. Develops strategy and sets direction within the team from a technical perspective. Exhibits key business judgment and strong track record of driving large programs relevant to the business.

Responsibilities:
Applies deep broad technical knowledge of technology and industry trends to lead development, implementation and deployment of predictive models solutions for the business in high complexity environments or projects. Manages work output of a team of data scientists including acting as Scrum Master, owning team quarterly deliverables, and providing technical guidance to other team members. Engages and collaborates with the business teams to translate business priorities into analytics solutions. Collaborates with and advises management on big data strategies and technical approaches. Provides both technical and business leadership to:

  • Leads organization wide team or teams of other data science professionals in complex projects to mine data using modern tools and programming languages.
  • Defines and implements models to uncover patterns and predictions creating business value and innovation.
  • Manages and creates relationships with business partners to evaluate and foster data driven innovation, provide domain-specific expertise in cross-organization projects/initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on technical strategy to other members.
  • Act as Scrum Master for a team of data scientists.
  • Deeply understand business need and provide technical leadership intended to address top business priorities.
  • Expert communicator with extensive business-facing experience.
  • Be an advisor to management and enable them to make informed decisions.
  • Identifies and evaluates new technologies for alignment with technology roadmap and business value.
  • Leverages recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of the leadership team.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Typically 10+ years experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience using statistics, mathematics, algorithms and programming languages to solve big data challenges.
  • Fluent in structured and unstructured data, its management, and modern data transformation methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience designing and developing cloud based big data solutions based on AWS services.
  • Experience leading a team of junior analysts and data scientists.
  • Comfortable working with sparse, incomplete, or poor-quality data.
  • Experience delivering business value with predictive and descriptive analytics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and anticipate business priorities and effectively translate into technical model proposals.
  • Ability to build strategic relationships across HP.
  • Experience with agile planning and sprint execution.
  • Experience in a variety of programming languages: Python, Perl, Java, C++.
  • Familiar with multiple statistics and analytical packages: SAS, SPSS, R.
  • Familiar with data visualization technologies: QlikView, Tableau
