Job Description

The TSMC AI4BI Center is a global and international team that seeks to develop advanced AI-enabled analytics techniques to facilitate important business intelligence applications highly relevant to TSMC. This role will be based in our San Jose office in a hybrid working environment (working three days in the office). This role requires close interaction and coordination with international teams of junior data scientists, data engineers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, oversee development, evaluate the outputs of technical solutions, produce internal reports, and lead co-authored publications at top-tier AI venues.

Major Responsilities

  • BI problem identification and specification: This position requires significant efforts to help identify key BI problems to address from business stakeholders, prioritize requests, and develop timelines for execution. Responsibilities also include managing project scope, priorities, deliverables, risks/issues, and timelines for successful outcomes.
  • AI-enabled analytics solution formulation: Based on the key BI requirements, this role would entail working with senior data scientists and data engineers to produce AI-enabled analytics designs.
  • Cross-functional global team monitoring and solution evaluation: This role requires the individual(s) to work with a global set of AI personnel and BI stakeholders to monitor and ensure consistent project progress and evaluate the produced technical solutions.
  • Reporting and executive presentations: Given the reporting structure of this role, the expectation is for the individual(s) to effectively communicate with the firm’s Vice President(s)
  • Continuous education: Given the rapidly evolving nature of AI methods, the individual(s) in this role would be responsible for helping to facilitate continuous learning opportunities for team members. This involves producing bootcamp materials to facilitate rapid onboarding of new members and continuous learning opportunities for existing personnel.
  • Leadership and strategy for AI/ML: The individual will provide strategic and technical leadership, vision, and guidance to the data scientists and engineering teams, aligning their efforts with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Global team management: The individual will build and coach high-performing data scientist & engineering teams, ensuring that they have the necessary skills, resources, and support to excel in their roles.
  • Industry trends and innovation: The individual will stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in AI/ML technologies and apply this knowledge to drive innovation within the organization and our solutions.
  • Organizational influence: The individual will engage and work with user executives, technical leads, and partners to manage and deliver successful implementations of AI/ML solutions. The individual will interact with IT/business stakeholders to manage project scope, priorities, deliverables, risks/issues, and timelines for successful outcomes.
  • External collaboration: The individual will lead/drive the collaboration with universities and industry partners in topics related to the AI agenda.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems, information science, statistics, or related AI or machine learning fields
  • 15+ years of experience working in hands-on, advanced AI-enabled analytics and/or data scientist roles
  • Experience gathering requirements from business stakeholders, developing technical end-to-end AI-enabled analytics and system designs for implementation, evaluation (technical and business), and iterating on designs
  • Proven track record of managing diverse and international teams of data scientists and data engineers developing end-to-end AI-enabled analytics solutions
  • Publications or presentations in leading AI/ML conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, KDD) and/or journals (e.g., IEEE TKDE, ACM TOIS) a strong plus
  • Ideally, bilingual in Mandarin and English.
  • Strong domain knowledge in manufacturing is a plus.

Pay Transparency / Benefits statement

At TSMC, your base pay is only part of your overall total compensation package. At the time of this posting, this role typically pays a base salary between $200,000 and $325,000 per year. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires. Actual pay may be more or less than the posted range. Factors that influence pay include the individual's skills, qualifications, education, experience and the position level and location. TSMC’s total compensation package consists of market competitive pay, allowances, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits. We also offer extensive development opportunities and programs.
