WSP USA has an immediate opening for a Senior Consultant to support the company’s growing Sustainability, Energy and Climate Change offering. See wsp.com/advancingsustainability for a description of our team and capabilities.

The individual will support a client-facing team in the analysis, design, and implementation of organizational climate risk and resilience programs. The ideal candidate will have the flexibility and capacity to support a wide variety of projects and the demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams. Candidates should be passionate about sustainability and climate resilience, self-motivated and self-directed, collaborative, and able to produce high-quality work products.

Location of the position is flexible but San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Boulder, CO; or Arlington, VA are preferred. Other WSP office locations or remote options can be arranged for the preferred candidate. 

Your Impact

  • Assess climate-related risks and opportunities (transition and physical) through qualitative or quantitative scenario analysis or vulnerability assessments
  • Produce sustainability and climate resilience reports, disclosures (including CDP, CSRD, ISSB and TCFD), and other communications
  • Analyze and design corporate governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets for alignment with relevant reporting frameworks
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to minimize climate risks and maximize sustainability and resilience opportunities
  • Research leading climate risk management and resilience programs and initiatives
  • Design sustainability or climate risk management performance targets and accompanying strategies and achievement plans
  • Develop and maintain data management systems and business intelligence tools
  • Manage projects and project teams
  • Support business development activities with existing and prospective clients
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

In recognition of the full strategic suite of services offered by Advisory Services, the following requirements apply:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in sustainability, energy, environmental studies, business, public policy, or related discipline 
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience in sustainability, climate risk assessment
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, confidence, and integrity
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft programs including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Power BI
  • Familiarity with CDP, CSRD, ISSB, and TCFD
  • Previous experience conducting climate risk or vulnerability assessments for corporations, cities, or countries
  • Familiarity with using geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Familiarity with climate modeling and scientific programming (e.g., able to manipulate climate data using Python or R)
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and manage time efficientlyAbility to collaborate remotely across geographies and platforms
  • Prior experience working in consulting 
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific software, technology, math principles, predictive models, data science, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a physical science or engineering, risk management, or related field
  • Experience in sustainability, energy, and/or management consulting

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $81,500 - $142,560

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
