Job Description

The Milner lab in the Division of Pediatric Allergy Immunology and Rheumatology seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented and enthusiastic candidate to support the research program in rare and common genetic diseases of the immune system. We are looking for a scientific programmer who will be responsible for creating data capture mechanisms, data organization, and data analysis; however, responsibilities will primarily concern data extracted from internal and public genomic and transcriptomic databases. The ideal candidate is passionate about the intersection between precision medicine, biological pathways, and genomics; a creative problem-solver who can think outside the box; and can develop and/or recommend tools for efficient analysis of data by other lab members.

Responsibilities

  • Apply statistical principles and methods relevant to computational genomics to execute genetic analyses as required by the funded research projects.
  • Collaborating with informaticians and researchers to define and develop appropriate solutions for various research needs.
  • Applying a thorough and methodical approach to organizing and cleaning data.
  • Structuring analytical results in an organized manner.
  • Using effective written and verbal communication skills to present analysis and results to diverse stakeholders.
  • Implementing, testing, modifying and debugging programming code in R and other programming languages.
  • Devising accessible analytic and database tools for non-computational scientists.
  • Contribute to the collaborative projects performed by the lab.
  • Participate in the analysis of genetic data generated by projects that may include eMERGE (Electronic Medical Records and Genomics), UK Biobank, All-of-Us etc.
  • Work with exome or genome sequence and RNA sequence data.
  • Assist with genome and transcriptome interpretation.
  • Supervise and teach students, post-docs, or junior analysts.
  • Attend all required team meetings on a regular basis.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required; plus, three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science or related field.
  • Experience with statistical analysis methods used in research.
