Responsibilities

About the role

The AVP Data Science is responsible for managing a department of data scientists and analytic professionals; Responsibilities include: summarizing, reporting and providing polished presentations of findings to a variety of internal clients as well as working with other departments to achieve the overall company objectives; and implementing the design, development, deployment and maintenance of statistical / machine learning models in originations, collections, risk, pricing, fraud, customer experience and marketing.

The AVP will lead and guide the team with modeling expertise in the latest advanced natural language processing (NLP) and related statistical / machine learning techniques, as well as in the analysis of complex structured and unstructured data sets, and is the subject matter expert with an in-depth knowledge of quantitative methods and diligent knowledge of data sources and tools.

  • Lead and manage a team of Data Scientists.
  • Drive end-to-end research projects, from design and data collection to analysis, findings summarization, and actionable recommendation development
  • Build advanced technical knowledge, with a specific focus on text analytics and NLP, to support research and analytics efforts
  • Proficient working with various text analytics and NLP libraries such as Hugging Face / transformers
  • Develop and apply algorithms and models to optimize key business metrics, aiming to enhance operations and address business inquiries
  • Identify and translate business issues into quantifiable questions, present research findings and analyses for informed decision-making and ensure delivered solutions align with the Company's business needs
  • Collaborate with business leadership to provide analytics-based recommendations and effectively communicate analysis outcomes.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate proficiency in experimental design and the ability to implement documentation and monitoring protocols
  • Proficient in at least one of Python, R or SAS
  • Proficient working in a cloud-based analytics platform, e.g., Microsoft Azure / Databricks
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Data Scientists. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Psychics, Computer Science or similar quantitative field required
  • Extensive experience presenting highly complex analysis to upper management is required
  • 7+ years experience in modeling required
  • 2+ years experience in management required
