The Center for Child & Community Health Research (CCHR) in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics is a leader in addressing social determinants of health, sexually transmitted infections and other health disparities through research, programmatic and clinical endeavors.

CCHR seeks a Sr. Research Data Manager (Epidemiologist) to coordinate data management and analyses for The STD Surveillance Network Program. SSuN is a collaborative project between CCHR, the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. SSuN is a 11-site, nationwide surveillance project designed to enhance local and national sexually health transmitted disease surveillance data, track trends in routinely reported STIs (namely, gonorrhea and syphilis), as well as trends in clinical services for STDs provided by dedicated public STD clinics.

The Sr. Research Data Manager will serve as the data manager/epidemiologist for the Baltimore City SSuN project site. Due to the nature of the work, this position is primarily located at the BCHD, which currently has a hybrid work policy. The Sr. Research Data Manager will be expected to sit at the Baltimore City Health Department two days per week and the remaining three days will be working at CCHR or remotely.

The responsibilities include the ongoing day-to-day management of the SSuN program. This includes conducting data management, biostatistical analyses, quality control and assurance checks, generation of routine program progress reports to track program milestones, as well as preparation of data for interim and final reporting out to the PIs, and funding agencies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Performs data and database management duties.

Develops and modifies program data collection tools, produces data reports, fulfills data requests.

Coordinate and ensure the timely, accurate submission and data reports/datasets to funding agencies on all programs.

Ensure Quality Assurance and Control checking of program data and provide feedback to teams on the continuous improvement of data as wells as ongoing decision-making as well as for program outcomes.

Supervises a team of interviewers to ensure that data are accurate and entered in a timely

Manage data security and confidentiality protocols to ensure compliance with Johns Hopkins, BCHD and funding agency guidelines for secure data management.

Conducts data analysis using statistical software (i.e., SAS, Stata or R) and mapping using ARC GIS or other appropriate software for preparation of data to be submitted to funding agencies and for dissemination projects.

Lead and/or assist with program evaluation activities for grants and contracts, as needed.

Assists the PIs in writing program-related papers, reports, and presentations.

Generates reports for PIs, program team members or BCHD collaborators from REDCap, health department disease registries and health department electronic health record data as needed.

Remains up to date on best practices related to data science, statistical methods and current science related to social determinants of health, sexually transmitted infections or other topics related to ongoing projects. This may include travel to conferences and/or discussions with other health departments, reporting from the literature, or attending webinars.

Other duties as needed.

Additional knowledge, skills, & abilities

Knowledge and experience in the design, analysis and interpretation of epidemiological and public health program data using STATA, SAS or R.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

Five years related experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree.

Knowledge of ArcGIS

Knowledge of R

Knowledge of MS Access

Excellent oral, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Detail oriented

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational background.

Starting Salary Range: Min $55,200- Max $96,600 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
