Meet Your Future Neighbors

As the Monetization Data Science Lead at Nextdoor, you will hold a senior leadership position with significant responsibility. Your role involves owning the data strategy and execution across all of Nextdoor's advertising platforms and revenue-focused teams. You will be an integral part of the senior leadership team that drives the company's overarching strategy.

In this seniority position, you and your team will work diligently to optimize value for a diverse range of business customers, whether they are multinational brands, local businesses like neighborhood dry cleaners, or even your babysitter down the street. The work of your team is of utmost importance in advancing the company's overall growth and success.

As Data Scientists at Nextdoor, we are tasked with designing and overseeing product experiments, conducting complex analyses to inform company and product strategy, and deploying both online and offline models into production environments. We follow a semi-embedded team structure, where a group of data team members collaborates closely on specific products or pillars, engaging directly with product and engineering stakeholders.

Our Data Science group comprises individuals from various backgrounds and perspectives, with expertise spanning fields such as statistics, psychology, physics, and more. We serve as the mathematical decision scientists within the product development organization, actively and collaboratively contributing to the enhancement and evolution of the product.

The Impact You’ll Make

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing, communicating, and leading execution of our data strategy for all of Nextdoor’s monetization areas. This is a highly specialized role; experience in advertising data is a must, as are top-tier people management and communication skills. The person who fills this role has the potential to fundamentally change the trajectory of Nextdoor’s business.

This role is also responsible for helping to grow, mentor, and develop our data science team. You’ll help to enrich a supportive culture of learning, where no question is too small or too big to ask, and diverse voices can be heard. You’ll work with other data science leaders to help set up the entire discipline for success in the years to come.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field, and 10+ years working in data science, product analytics, machine learning, or equivalent, and/or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain
  • Extensive experience around ad marketplaces in consumer products
  • At least three years experience managing a team of data scientists 6+ distributed across multiple surface areas
  • Expertise with modern methods, tools, and packages for statistical modeling and machine learning, and experience in applying them to real world problems
  • Experience formulating, running, and sharing complex analyses, including different types of experiments, causal inference studies, and other exploratory analysis work
  • Comfort working across the product development spectrum: strategy, ideation, analysis, experimentation, and model architecture and development
  • Exceptional written and oral communication, including ability to effectively communicate complexity to a diverse group of stakeholders

Bonus Points

  • Work experience related to social or community-based products
  • Work experience related to small businesses and marketplaces
  • Expertise deploying models to production
  • Expertise in testing and evaluating the impact of network effects

Rewards

We also expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With equal quarterly vesting, your first vest date would be within the first 3 months of your start date.

Overall, total compensation will vary depending on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
