As a Software Engineer on the Experimentation team, you will provide self-service tools that empower our product engineers, data scientists, and business users to make decisions quickly and easily through seamless access to our data. Our in-house experimentation platform involves both implementing and optimizing data engineering workflows as well as building a full-stack web application for users to configure and review their experiments which are written with React and Python. We leverage a variety of AWS components in conjunction with Kubernetes and Spark to automate data processing, analyze A/B tests, power product features, machine learning, and more.

We’re seeking an experienced software engineer to design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and reliable data services and infrastructure that power Nextdoor. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building, debugging, and maintaining highly available distributed systems
  • Working with petabytes of data
  • Writing crisp design documentation
  • Valuing both software and data quality

What You’ll Bring To The Team

  • BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science with specific interest in data platform engineering; 5+ years industry experience preferred and/or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, or Scala
  • Experience designing, building, and debugging distributed systems
  • Experience working with high-scale, cost efficient batch-oriented (hive, spark, etc) data processing
  • Experience with data modeling and warehousing
  • Familiarity with software engineering standard methodologies (e.g., design patterns, peer code reviews, unit testing)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience writing technical specifications and design documents
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic start-up environment
  • Strong desire to learn about new technologies and systems
  • Experience with Experimentation a huge plus

Compensation, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to create one overall rewards package.

The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $153,000 - $212,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. Compensation may also vary by geography.

We also expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With equal quarterly vesting, your first vest date would be within the first 3 months of your start date.

Overall, total compensation will vary depending on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
