What’s the role?

As a Physical Assets Data Management Professional, you'll help grow Bloomberg's physical and energy asset databases to further deliver a world class data product offering. You will be responsible for developing essential elements of our data product, including its data model, data pipelines, and data quality specifications. You will be expected to monitor market and industry trends to influence Bloomberg's standard processes, tools and technical infrastructure for data lifecycle management. Our teams possess a unique combination of technical skills, subject-matter-expertise, good interpersonal skills and ability to establish relationships with various partners such as Engineering and Product teams to propose, develop and implement solutions for our clients. You'll collaborate closely with both our Data counterparts and Product teams in Princeton, New York, London and Asia.

We trust you to:

  • Develop proactive data quality strategies that ensure data is fit for purpose
  • Develop interconnected data models that enable analysis across datasets
  • Design data architectures that drive a wide variety of products and solutions
  • Design and manage workflow configurations for critical functions such as data acquisition, data processing and quality control.
  • Evaluate and apply sound statistical methods to promote and measure data quality, generate insights, and extract information
  • Perform incident management, from root cause analysis to overall problem management.
  • Partner with Engineering and Product to propose, develop and implement market leading solutions for our clients.
  • Analyze internal processes to find opportunities for improvement; devise and implement innovative solutions across datasets.
  • Understand customer needs and markets to ensure our data sets are fit-for-purpose and seamlessly integrate with other data products when developing data product strategies.
  • Stay updated on market, industry and dataset developments related to your area of support and
  • Make well-informed decisions in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
  • Procure content to support best-in-class coverage of the physical assets datasets.
  • Report on results of on-going operations and projects, as the need arises.
  • Be responsive, resourceful, flexible, and an excellent collaborator
  • Balance the best of technical and product knowledge to craft solutions for customers

You’ll need to have:

  • 4-5 years of data management experience, for example improving data quality, accuracy, efficiency or timeliness*.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant data technology field or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Strong passion for data and the overall energy transition movement.
  • The ability to think creatively and provide out of the box solutions with an eagerness to learn and collaborate.
  • Demonstrated experience in Data Profiling/Analysis using tools such as Python, SQL, Excel, or experience using Analytical/Dashboarding applications (such as Qlik Sense, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated project management experience, for example leading processes, designing dashboard.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Interest and/or experience in client and partner management.
  • Familiarity with data processing paradigms and associated tools and technologies.
  • Strong analytical abilities with passion for data and evidence-based decision-making
  • Solid ability to combine technical data science traits with good business insight

*Please note we use years of experience as a guide but we certainly will consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.

We’d love to see:

  • Previous work experience with the Bloomberg Terminal or Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, or programming and applied data analysis skills, with proficiency using R, Python or similar coding languages.
  • Experience in semantic structures or data modelling.
  • Strong skills for problem solving particularly to modify and enhance processes and workflows.
