The Senior Engineer is a critical role responsible for advancing and sustaining digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives for Baxter’s Americas manufacturing network.

The successful candidate will exhibit a passion for new technologies and automation, possess exceptional customer engagement, strong program management skills, a passion for data, and a quest for continuous improvement. Knowledge of various leading Industry 4.0 tools such as AI/ML, computer vision, autonomous vehicles, IoT platforms, cloud & edge computing, and related-emerging technologies is a key requirement.

What you'll be doing

  • Partner with a team of multi-functional technical specialists (e.g., software, machine learning, computer vision, mechanical and controls engineers, network administrators, and cloud computing architects) to develop and implement transformative, highly connected, technologies for Industry 4.0.

Technologies will include, but are not necessarily limited to: AI-based computer vision systems, autonomous mobile robots/cobots for automation of manual material handling operations and/or periodic inspection tasks, etc.

  • Support cross-functional teams at a Global scale to deploy advanced technologies at our manufacturing facilities.
  • Effectively manage project work and commitments.
  • Identify equipment/automation issues and recommend/implement improvements to Digital Transformation products and technologies.
  • Support training workshops with regional and site manufacturing engineers on Digital Transformation technologies with the goals of helping participants understand the intricacies of the technology and how to implement and sustain it themselves.
  • Generate technical documentation in support of project work and requirements, such as: protocols, reports, user requirements specifications (URS), design specifications, validation test cases, manuals, work instructions, etc.
  • In this position you will learn to effectively use the command line in Linux (i.e., terminal) to provision hardware, collect diagnostic information, and perform troubleshooting.
  • May use 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks) to design fixtures for computer vision systems or related Digital Transformation technologies.

What you'll bring

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field (e.g., computer science).
  • Advanced computer literacy/proficiency is required – members of this team go well beyond basic word processing and generalized PC use. An ideal candidate will be able to successfully demonstrate a passion for learning software, coding, and related IT skills.
  • Experience with computer vision hardware (i.e., industrial cameras, lenses, optics, and lighting).
  • Experience engaging and effectively managing outside contractors, vendors, suppliers, etc.
  • Ability to recognize and clearly communicate the business value of transformation programs.

Business Travel: 20% - 30%

Location: Greater Asheville Area, NC or Greater Chicago Area, IL (Flexible)

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $60,000 - $132,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
