The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

Mercedes-Benz Seattle Hub is looking for a Principal Infrastructure Cloud professional with AWS and Azure experience. The qualified candidate should have a deep understanding of cloud architecture and security, extensive experience leading, implementing, and configuring AWS cloud, resources, and services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on coding is required for this role
  • Migrate applications to AWS or Kubernetes environments and integrate with service mesh, security, policy and observability tools
  • Create Infrastructure as Code scripts and pipelines to automate deployment of resources in applications in one or more cloud providers (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Follow specified processes for incident management and act as subject matter expert for troubleshooting during incidents
  • Identify and drive operational efficiency in DevSecOps and automation
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to solve business challenges and ensure environments remain current
  • Instrument observability stacks for centralized management of multi-cluster environments
  • Exercise initiative in identifying and proactively solving gaps in technology, process, or team skills
  • Establish effective communication with users, other technical teams, and management to give transparency to project milestones, validate direction and new feature work, technical solutions and scope-changing issues
  • Contribute to team directions by driving standards, best practices, methodologies, and technologies used
  • Demonstrate, through explanation and/or “whiteboard” sessions, fundamental grasp of infrastructure architecture design and workflows
  • Provide active mentorship to junior team members to elevate both soft and technical skills of the collective team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advance programming/scripting in multiple languages (Python, Bash, Java)
  • Advance knowledge with creating, deploying, configuring, and scaling applications in one or more cloud providers (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Expert understanding of Kubernetes core concepts and larger ecosystem, including control plane and data plane mechanisms, container runtimes, the inner workings of the Kube API, as well as network designs for large-scale multi-tenant clusters, telemetry, security, high availability, disaster recovery
  • Deep understanding of relational and non-relational databases, along with performance characteristics
  • Experience with transitioning Proof of Concept solutions into full product offerings, maturing engineering process and procedures, solidifying architecture to support scalability and security for production environments
  • Expert level understanding of highly scalable cloud network designs, protocols, security, and resource governance in AWS or Azure
  • High level of understanding traffic management including load balancers, firewalls, and IDS
  • Expert knowledge on building and distributing scalable IaC solutions across many development teams (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Strong technical communication and documentation skills across different organizational areas
  • Demonstrated ability to pro-actively reach across people/teams/organizations to build relationships and drive technical discussions to reduce ambiguity and create technical specifications
  • Valid US Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operational expertise with one or more cloud providers (AWS, Azure) – certifications preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Professional experience with network engineering and enterprise technologies
  • Experience with concepts of API design, load balancing, containerization, disaster recovery and leveraging IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS as appropriate
  • Experience with CI/CD processes and pipelines
  • Front-end development experience is a plus (Vue, React)

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $146,600-$186,900.
