Job Purpose and Impact

The goal TDA analysts are to transform supply and demand knowledge into unique, timely, actionable & accurate insights to the traders, commercial and business development teams locally and globally to guide/support their decision making.

This analyst trainee position is at entry level, designed to gain knowledge, experience, and develop proper behaviors that meet our needs of a specific product analyst. This position will need to collaborate with other metals analysts to complete various projects in short and long term fundamental studies; build/maintain TDA database and help to manage the way we create, collect, store, report and utilize data; and help in other routine works. Customer and farm field visits are also needed.

This position has constant interactions with local traders/merchants, commercial team, and global traders and analysts.

Key Accountabilities

Key deliverables are certain study projects, summarized into reports and presented to relevant teams; and data/database projects that have the results of improved efficiency in our data process.

40% S&D Analysis Projects

  • Work on fundamental study projects to understand specific S&D and order flow components and build short/long term forecasts.
  • Key fields include iron ore, China steel and international steel markets.
  • Learn from other analysts, commercial team, traders, customers, and other Cargill businesses for related business knowledge.
  • Collect, verify, and consolidate data, and build statistical models to transform those knowledges into clear and concise insights (in the form of numbers, tables, and charts).
  • Summarize reports and present study results to traders and other analysts.

40% Data and Database Management

  • Partner with other analysts and traders to understand how data is currently used, understand what data is relevant to their needs, and determine if data can be located that would improve their analytics, enhance their productivity, etc.
  • Data collection, with the goal of automating the collection process systematically; there is still manual data input needed.
  • Work with IT and global data analyst to make sure all data is stored properly locally or in global database, and easily accessed by who need it.

20% Support in Other Studies

  • Support in other (routine) works of metals analytics
  • Participate in Enterprise and individual Business studies as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Science; or Bachelor degree in Economics, Statistics, or similar fields
  • 0-3-year relevant working experience
  • Rational mindset and strong analytical skills
  • Curiosity mindset
  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate complex verbal and written messages in a concise way
  • Can deal with ambiguity, and have passion to figure things out in a positive way

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Economics, Statistics, or similar fields
  • 1~2 years relevant working experience
  • Working experience in commodities research/merchandizing/trading
  • Proven ability to work effectively both in a small integrated team
  • Advanced statistical modelling skills or data skills
  • Strong data management skills.
