Job Description

Alert Innovation, now powered by Walmart, is a fast-growing venture on a mission to reinvent retail through robotics. We’ve partnered with Walmart to develop our Alphabot® technology, which is currently being deployed at stores throughout North America.

Alert is seeking a 6-month Co-Op student from July 2023 to December 2023 to aid in the design and development of our next generation Automated Storage and Retrieval System. We are trying to revolutionize the e-grocery and micro fulfilment industry and look forward to learning how you may help be a part of this effort. 

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON:

The role available is in a small, multi-disciplinary team within the larger company. Responsibilities include brainstorming, concepting, prototyping, testing, data analysis, hands on construction & maintenance, order & vendor management, technical documentation, and PLM integration. We have included role specific descriptions for the team you'll be a part of.

 STRUCTURE: 

• Structure team is the foundation for the Alphabot system. It is the storage space for products, movement space for the bots, and main connecting element that everything in our system references. Design efficiency is paramount in this system with structural members quickly tallying miles of length per installation. Safety, recover-ability, and system maintenance are all other major drivers that play into the design decisions that will present themselves in this position. If you find large scale design interesting, this is the coop role for you. 

 I/O: 

• I/O team is the workhorse of the Alphabot system. Product induction, order assembly, and order delivery are all driven by this team. These sub-systems provide most of the human interaction with the system and support tens of thousands of totes, products, and orders per day. This demands that human interface parameters be carefully considered and refined over time to ensure seamless user-experience. If you are passionate about mechanical design that influences human-robot interfaces, this role is for you. 

BOT MECHANICAL: 

• BOT team is responsible for the core of the Alphabot system, the Alphabot itself. Reliability and process minimization are critical to ensuring Bots stay up and running 24/7 while moving as fast as possible. This role is heavy in design elements like precision machine design, mechanism design, and design for (high volume) manufacture. Cost and weight minimization are major priorities with over 100 bots per installation traveling through the structure in 3Dimensions. We are looking to make Alphabot the highest qty robot in the world and need innovative, agile thinkers to do it. 

BOT ELECTRICAL: 

• BOT team is responsible for the core of the Alphabot system, the Alphabot itself. Reliability and process minimization are critical to ensuring Bots stay up and running 24/7 while moving as fast as possible. High power circuitry, Signal processing, RF design, thermals, and cost minimization are all focus areas of the Bot Electrical team. The electrical system that powers the Bot has uptime and lifetime requirements making the solution incredibly unique in the realm of robotic systems. We are looking to make Alphabot the highest qty robot in the world and need innovative, agile thinkers to do it. 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and perpetually curious critical thinker. Technical hobbies of any kind outside of the classroom environment are a plus - including but not limited to: FIRST Robotics, Baja SAE, Robotics Club(s), Rocket Club (AIAA).

The role will be full-time in-person at Alert HQ in Andover, MA
