General Mills is seeking a Data Scientist to work in our Consumer & Market Intelligence (CMI) Decision Sciences team. The Decision Sciences team provides strategic business analytics that enable business teams to better understand data, extract insights and identify actions to take related to business objectives.

This position is focused on researching, building, scaling, and maintaining new and existing capabilities that identify future growth opportunities within our Predictive & Scenario Intelligence pillar.

We are looking for an exceptional person who is passionate about data science, predictive analytics, and machine learning technologies (data exploration, sampling, training data generation, feature engineering, model building, and performance evaluation). As part of the Decision Sciences team, you will apply analytical rigor, critical thinking, and creativity to solve complex issues while working with business teams. This will require leveraging external partners, working with peers in the Decision Sciences team, and partnering with end business users to develop a world class ecosystem.

As part of the Decision Sciences team, you will have the unique opportunity to grow your business acumen, storytelling, and cross-functional skills in the Data and Analytics space. A successful candidate will have the right blend of delivering on stakeholder needs, managing a highly technical team, and turning analytics into action.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

We are looking for someone to help further our data and decision science capabilities to deliver business growth. The right candidate will have demonstrated business and technical experience and can deliver results that continue the growth of our capabilities that align with our strategic business decisions. This would include:

  • Deliver analytics results based on project plans while working on an Agile work team
  • Leverage and apply sound modeling techniques to produce meaningful business insights that can be scaled and applied across global business areas
  • Approach and solve new problems adhering to foundational research practices.
  • Effectively translate and communicate actionable insights and capabilities to all levels of the organization that drive business decisions and strategies, ensuring analytics are understood and leveraged
  • Generate and combine insights from large and/or disparate data sources
  • Partner closely with cross-functional and enterprise teams to drive collaboration, efficiency, and enterprise impact
  • Stay abreast of latest advances in data science, marketing science, and analytics, identifying opportunities within General Mills for application
  • Continuously advance skills in methods, storytelling, and partnership-building

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Social Sciences, Statistics, or other related field
  • 2+ years in data science or marketing analytics roles, building or leveraging advanced analytics, statistical, and machine learning methods
  • Experience using statistical methods to understand drivers behind consumer behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience translating analytic results back to the business, turning analytics into actionable business strategies, and delivering on business objectives
  • Demonstrated experience of partnering with stakeholders and creating and maintaining strong relationships
  • Agility to deliver with sense of urgency, consistently meeting tight timelines
  • Experience building the expertise of others through coaching and mentoring
  • Proficient with R or Python and SQL scripting languages
  • Demonstrated ability to apply statistical methods to time series data (including but not limited to forecasting).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working on a global team with remote team members
  • Working in Agile Project Management
  • Prior experience working with Strategy and Growth teams
  • Experience using econometric and/or psychometric methods
  • Prior experience working in the Consumer Packaged Goods or Retail industry
  • Experience with GCP or AWS, Hadoop, Hive
