Job Description

JD Power is looking for talented data scientists with excellent quantitative and analytical skills. Our ideal candidates are determined to combine the art and science of data analytics and marketing to help clients address the complex challenges surrounding price, promotion, customer journeys and multi-step purchase decisions. This includes consideration and uptake of new automotive technologies such as electric vehicles, online retailing and connected vehicles

You’ll work hands on with quantitative data to analyze and reveal the business drivers of consumer choice, both to help create new capabilities, and to improve and maintain existing capabilities. You will have the freedom to utilize latest technologies to solve challenging problems, create innovative machine learning processes from the ground up, deploy to production, and develop tools for monitoring them

We make data products that solve problems for the auto industry. Every data scientist will build models that go into production and directly impact new and existing products.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily immersion in automotive industry data
  • Work with senior data scientists to ensure model quality in terms of modeling methodologies, data / model validation metrics, actionable insights, and analytical/technical best practices.
  • Implement models that are based on statistics, econometrics, and/or machine learning techniques such as: logistic regression, choice model, time-series model, panel data model, Bayesian statistics, structural equations, probability theory, clustering algorithms, etc.
  • Validate model results and package them into insightful client-friendly interpretations
  • Ensure rigorous quality control and detect anomalies in the model with ongoing new data streams
  • Interdisciplinary work: you’ll interact with multiple teams across the firm to implement our end-to-end solutions and improve processes. This includes Consulting, New Product Development, Data, Engineering, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise with modeling multiple outcomes across a consumer’s journey (e.g. Ranging from awareness to consideration and search, to purchase and post-purchase experience)
  • Demonstrated expertise with data analytics and/or statistical concepts such as: promotion/price, media mix modeling, multivariate regression, logistic regression, time-series modeling, Bayesian statistics, segmentation modeling, machine learning, data mining, simulation, optimization, and/or forecasting
  • Fluency in statistical programming software: Spark, R, or Python preferred
  • Fluency of database software: SQL preferred
  • Experience resolving complex data and analytical issues in creative and effective ways
  • Independent professional who can take a vision and implement with limited instruction, and may have experience coordinating activities of other professional technical personnel
  • Bachelor’s degree (required) with statistics or mathematical background: Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Quantitative Marketing, Finance, Engineering or similar
  • Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g. Statistics, Data Science, Economics) a plus. PhD not required
  • An effective cross functional communicator in both written and verbal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a large cross-functional team
  • Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Resilient work ethic
  • 7-10 years of full-time quantitative analytics professional (non-academic) experience and quantified business impact
