Blackstone’s Portfolio Operations Group is a team of dedicated executives and advisors with decades of combined operational experience and expertise, who together form a world-class operating platform that partners with Blackstone’s investment and portfolio company management teams to advise and support the firm’s portfolio companies across a wide range of operational initiatives, corporate functions, and business subject areas. The group aims to leverage Blackstone’s scale and expertise to support management in driving transformational growth and value-creation for all stakeholders across the investment lifecycle.


Blackstone Data Science (“BXDS”) is the firm-wide team that uses advanced analytics and statistical methods to make us better investors and business operators. It consists of data scientists, engineers, and strategists who collaborate closely to analyze complex datasets, develop predictive and analytical models, build production-quality data flows, and advise on smarter data utilization. BXDS is part of the firm’s Portfolio Operations Group. They work hand-in-hand with business units to drive operating efficiencies and identify new sources of value.

Job Title: BXDS Engineering, Associate

Blackstone is looking to hire a data science engineering associate to be an integral member of BXDS. You will be focused on designing and building data science tools and infrastructure to enable our team to use data science to make better investment decisions and accelerate growth at our companies. You will work across and be highly integrated into both the Portfolio Operations Blackstone Data Science team and the Blackstone Technology Innovations group to build the core infrastructure that powers the Blackstone Data Science team to scale.

You will play a key role in accelerating an evolution within Blackstone and its portfolio companies by applying data science techniques and integrating novel sources of information. From a technical perspective, you will be comfortable building data science applications with the latest cloud technologies and data science modeling techniques. Intellectually, the successful candidate will be excited by implementing software engineering best practices to convert ad hoc analysis to production quality code to increase the scale and reach of data science across the firm.

This is a hybrid role that combines analytics, product, and engineering. The ideal candidate is a skilled computer programmer and data practitioner who has experience designing and building production-quality systems. Mastery of Python, SQL, and software engineering best practices are must and experience with software development operations technology like AWS, Containers, Kubernetes and common CI/CD processes are required.

Qualifications include:

  • Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline (e.g. computer science, data science, applied math, operations research, or engineering) required
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a data driven setting as a software engineer, data engineer, or development operations engineer
  • Expert proficiency in programming and querying languages including Python and SQL, strongly typed and/or functional languages a plus
  • Experience with cloud technologies and best practices with the following technologies: CI/CD, Kubernetes, Containers, and Terraform
  • Foundation in statistics and mathematics
  • Experience with analytical methodologies and desire to solve novel technical challenges
  • Strong communication and project management skills as a technical lead on projects
  • Excellence in balancing multiple projects and efficiently meeting goals in a fast-paced environment • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • No previous experience in the financial services industry is required
