Job Description

AlleyCorp North is a specialist consultancy located at the intersection of AI and healthcare. We solve complex human problems by applying cutting-edge technology and domain understanding.

About the position

We are seeking a Senior Developer specializing in healthcare interoperability to help our clients build and maintain robust, standards-compliant healthcare data systems. This position combines deep technical expertise in healthcare data standards with strong full-stack development capabilities.

Note that while we are looking for healthcare specialists, not *all* of our projects are healthcare-related, so you may work in other areas from time to time.

Your work will consist of:

  • Building healthcare integration solutions: Implementing FHIR APIs, HL7 interfaces, and EHR integrations for our clients' software products. Delivering high-quality code that meets healthcare data standards and security requirements.
  • Product Development: Gathering requirements, discussing with stakeholders, developing features, and improving our clients' software products. Delivering high-quality code, including front-end and back-end, infrastructure, data, etc.
  • Tooling: Enhance platform tools for your project(s), by creating CI/CD pipelines, test suites, etc. Make the most of AI coding assistants, in accordance with project constraints.
  • On some projects, technical project management: planning and coordinating deliverables, scope, timelines and budgets for a project team; working closely with clients and internal interdisciplinary teams to ensure successful and high-quality delivery.
  • Support the team: Provide process and tool suggestions to your teammates, mentor more junior colleagues, present internally, participate in interviews, and occasionally contribute to internal tooling projects.

About you:

We're looking for developers with a strong foundation in software engineering and specialized knowledge of healthcare interoperability. While we use a variety of technologies, our healthcare projects typically involve TypeScript, Node.js, and Python, often deployed on AWS.

We want you to apply if you:

  • Have at least 5 years of experience as a software developer, including at least 2 years focused on healthcare.
  • Have hands-on experience implementing FHIR APIs and HL7 interfaces, including experience with common healthcare integration engines and FHIR servers.
  • Be familiar with health data security requirements and standards such as HIPAA.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to explain complex technical issues to technical and clinical stakeholders.
  • Be adaptable, motivated and thrive in fast-paced environments.
  • Have experience integrating with major EHR systems like Epic or Cerner.

Bonus points if you:

  • Have experience with healthcare terminology services and standards (SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm).
  • Have worked on projects involving clinical decision support or population health analysis.
  • Have contributed to open source healthcare projects or standards development.

All our job postings describe a bit of a unicorn. If you're a narwhal type, apply anyway. You don't need to meet all the requirements, let alone the bonus criteria. While experience and skills are valuable, growth potential and attitude are just as important. We're generally flexible on levels or can advise you when a more relevant position opens up.
