Job Description

AlleyCorp North is a specialist consultancy located at the intersection of AI and healthcare. We solve complex human problems by applying cutting-edge technology and domain understanding.

About the position

This is a one-man-one position with both internal and client-facing responsibilities. In this role, you will own our software development strategy and platform. You will own our internal cloud, security, and tool stack, making strategic decisions that impact the entire company. You will also serve as an architect and lead on various client projects.

Your work will consist of:

Billable client work (approximately 50% of the time), which may include:

  • Act as a technical lead and architect within client project teams, working closely with clients, project managers, product designers, software developers and generally interdisciplinary teams; in these roles you will need to be hands-on.
  • Doing hands-on work alone — for example, part-time CTO work for startups and other consulting work.
  • Own our internal tools and standards — from roadmaps for our internal tools to partnerships with cloud providers.
  • Work with other senior technical leaders to create, review and apply software development best practices.
  • Mentor the most experienced members of our technical team and provide guidance to our engineering practice guild.
  • Own our security best practices and be the technical leader of compliance initiatives (e.g. SOC2); develop a security practice and roadmap (with the help of our operations team).
  • Work with our sales and business development team to grow the business by leading technical discussions in sales cycles and participating in marketing and promotional activities.
  • Collaborate with our AI and Design leadership to identify opportunities for our developers to create additional leverage, for example through internal projects and new services.

About you:

We're looking for a seasoned technical leader who thrives as an individual contributor and has strong business acumen. You enjoy making pragmatic technology choices to create maintainable and secure systems, but you also keep an eye on emerging trends.

  • Extremely advanced software development skills across a variety of technology stacks.
  • Very good knowledge of cloud providers and their offerings; ability to design systems independently of the provider.
  • Professional experience in companies of various sizes and stages, from enterprise to start-up, and a corresponding understanding of reasonable architectural trade-offs
  • A very good understanding of security and privacy and applicable regulatory frameworks (experience working in highly regulated sectors is a plus).
  • Over 8 years of overall experience as a technology professional.
  • Must possess exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Must have strong French presentation skills, technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work comfortably with US clients.

Some pluses: We would like you to have some experience in healthcare (clinical operations, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, etc.), as this is our main area of interest, but it is a plus. We would also appreciate it if you had experience in open source project governance and are generally familiar with intellectual property issues in software development.

We typically hire generalists. In this role, we expect you to have a T-shape (with depth in software architecture, cloud, and security) but a strong interest in helping generalists learn more about your field and an affinity for other technical areas, namely data science and design.

All our job postings describe a bit of a unicorn. If you're a narwhal type, apply anyway. You don't need to meet all the requirements, let alone the bonus criteria. While experience and skills are valuable, growth potential and attitude are just as important. We're generally flexible on levels or can advise you when a more relevant position opens up.
